Jaquean Magic

Jaquean magic is a powerful type of magic unique to certain people born on Jaque. It is known primarily for its strange rules of inheritance.

Manifestation

Jaquean magic varies in appearance. Usually, it is visible as wisps of colored, glowing smoke. However, some spells have no appearance, particularly mental ones. Even visible spells look different when done by different people or in different situations. The color is the biggest change, but the size and shapes of the smoke also vary widely, especially when doing different spells.

Localization

Jaquean magic can only be found on Jaque and inherited only by those who are born there in a lineage of others born on Jaque. Currently, almost all of the old Jaquean families have magic users, including the Elementine, Asuga, and Goldstein families. The Asugas in particular are known to have strong magic users in their ranks, as they almost religiously live on Jaque for nearly their whole lives to pass magic down to their children.

Powers & Training

With Jaquean magic, magic users have access to incredible abilities. The easiest to see and do is simply summon magic in a visible form. This allows the user to pull strands of pure magic from the air and weave it into shapes. The next level of difficulty is in imbuing the magic with emotion and intention, giving the magic a purpose. As the magic-user progresses in skill, they learn how to give the magic they summon a particular role to fill, a job to do. Then they progress to learning how to release it.
Be careful, darling. Our magic may not be as dangerous, but it is still fueled by emotion.

Jaquean magic inheriters learn from a young age how to control their powers. They are usually taught by family or friends of the family, never by "official" teachers. Magic is powered by emotion, and the best way to learn is carefully and personally.
Jaquean magic, although extremely powerful, is not one of the more dangerous types of magic. Due partially to the Law of Innocence, it is nearly impossible to hurt someone with Jaquean magic. Of course, in theory, it is all too possible, but in practice, one would realize exactly how difficult it is to shape Jaquean magic with negative emotion. Instead, Jaquean magic is turned to most for its strength in healing and calming.

Inheritance Rules

Magic is inherited by those born on Jaque only if they are born after five consecutive generations of people born on Jaque. This allows the planet's natural magic to absorb into the child before they are exposed to anything else. Children do not have to live the entirety of their lives on Jaque, just be born there.

The Law of Innocence

Discovered relatively soon after Jaquean magic was first found, the Law of Innocence is a natural restriction that Jaquean magic places on all of its users. The law prevents a magic user from harming children or innocents by removing the magic user's power. The magic user can never regain their magic. Theoretically, they can learn other magical powers, but they can never use Jaquean magic again.
After what she pulled, she assumed Jaquean magic would prevent her from using it. But influencing people is still easy, and her protective enchantments are even easier.
Few exceptions have been found, but the various other rules associated with it are confusing to learn. Twelve years appears to be the cutoff for "child", and "innocent" has many interpretations. If the "innocent" person has "never harmed a living creature", then the Law of Innocence reacts, but even this has strange rules. Indirectly caused harm does not count and childhood arguments also do not count.   Ways that Jaquean magic can be used to harm are few and far between. Self-defense is not counted and neither is killing certain insects and pests. Jaquean magic cannot be used to torture, kill, punish, or bully without the Law of Innocence reacting.
