Crestanto Abilities

Crestanto abilities are the way magic manifests in Crestantos. They are often natural talents unique to each Crestanto and vary in use and functionality.

Manifestation

Due to the wide range of Crestanto abilities, there are almost no similarities in appearance. Changes wrought by a Crestanto’s power simply happen. If a Crestanto’s power is more visual, such as manipulating fire or water, their magic may be visible. Since most powers are mysterious in their workings, they are generally accepted as natural talents with a magical origin and power source.
We thought he was just lucky, and then he turned four and we realized it was his ability. It's crazy, isn't it, his power? Literal luck?

Crestanto powers are present from birth, but children only gain control around 3-4 years old. Prior to this age, children can only use their power in dire circumstances. Some children can control their power much earlier on and incidences are often chalked up to coincidence until the child is old enough to use it obviously.

Localization

Crestanto abilities are unique to the species. While other species may have magic that allows them to use the same skills, none have the same range or natural ease at using them. These powers mesh perfectly with each Crestanto's body and personality and balance their other skills without effort.

Genetic Inheritance

Unsurprisingly, most Crestanto abilities are unrelated to genetics, melding with the individual's personality rather than family. Powerful Crestantos tend to have similarly powerful children, but each ability is different. While abilities like elements are common, two Crestantos with fire-related powers are neither guaranteed nor expected to have children with fire abilities.

Siblings also have incredibly varied powers, although studies have proven that certain anomalies in an older sibling's power can affect the powers of younger ones. Twins are likely to have similar tendencies with their abilities despite differences. For example, one twin might have the ability to recall every word she has ever read, and the other might have the ability to calculate odds without mistakes. In this case, the pair have abilities related to memory and calculation.

Special Cases

Warning: Spoilers for the current Crestanto Royal Family
Genetic anomalies present in older siblings are known to affect their younger siblings, especially relating to their abilities. One example of this is shown in the current Crestanto royal family. The oldest son was cursed before his birth, resulting in major changes to his physicality and powers. He is widely believed to be the Racarin as well as one of the Helpers of the Guardians. His younger siblings soon showed that his genetics affected them.   Although each of the royal children has a seemingly normal ability, closer study reveals how they go further. One of his sisters can sense irregularities and angles with objects and measurements, a common ability until one realizes she can also tell when someone is lying. The example of twins refers to his siblings as well.
