The Forsaken
Common Names: The Forsaken, The Ushers Nine , We Forsaken in Nine
Mantra: "The Salvation in Nine" "May you meet your First of Nine (at the hands of…)" (Referring to the end of life is the first hell, the hell on the prime material before reaching the nine hells).
Description: The Forsaken were born from the passing of souls, who in their final moments, beseech The Nine to save them, only to have their prayers go unanswered. Their lifetime of faithful praise, ending in spiteful thoughts and curses. After the millennia, the millions of souls spending their final moments betrayed, and though bound to pass to their deity's ownership, that iota of negative energy spent at the end is incapable of being accepted, and fated to wander the planes.
While men may not be equal in life, it is in death where they often share commonalities. These fragments of souls that pass with the same hatred, began to find each other, and over time, coalesced and took form. Kith forms. They gave themselves names, befitting the manner in which they spent their dying seconds. For them, their birth was heralded by death, and their life is sustained by every new passing into the afterlife. Forsaken by the Gods, they themselves have become Gods, understood, and respected by Kith.
The birth of The Forsaken, was heralded by beings called, The Fractured. Dark, mindless entities of necrotic energy, whose only intent seemed to be the destruction of all other beings, including The Favored and all other deities. A Trans-Pantheon alliance was formed, consisting of Volos, The Traveler, Morrigan, Takeshi, Artemis, Quetzalcoatl, and Nyx, who were tasked with descending to the mortal realm, investigating and destroying the new threat. The group was unsuccessful in their mission, and with their defeat, ushered in the transformation of the once forsaken, into those of immortal gods.
The failure of the divine to destroy that which threatened the world they knew, is referred to as The Fall: The falling of the gods in power, and in status in the minds of their followers, the fall of lawful and ethical society, and most notably, the fall of darkness, as a blanket of grey haze and cloud, covered the entire world, dampening the sun and its life giving energy. Thus began a time of despots, usurpers, warring factions, and unrest. Every man for themselves.
The creation of The Forsaken, led to The Nine becoming known as, The Favored. The two factions and their followers would clash and wage war against each other for generations, in a conflict known as the War of Regression, as the demeanor of both the Favored and Forsaken reverted back to resembling that when they existed as one chaotic force. Their proximity and connection with their worshipers, also caused the Kith to lose their civilized natures, and act with primal savagery toward one another. The actions on each side would again alter the landscape of Tre'Novis, so that the battle scared terrain once again resembled that chaotic state of the First World. This era became known as the Age of Atavism
Curiously, the fully realized birth of The Forsaken did not quelle the creation of The Fractured. These beings continued to form over the years, owing no allegiance to anyone or ethos, not even The Forsaken themselves, who were thought to be their masters. Driven by pure chaos and destruction, they continued to be a scourge to all inhabitants of Tre'Novis. Generations would pass before Kith, Favored, and Forsaken would be united and focus their attention on their common enemy.
Focusing on their war efforts, attacks on each other and the land, would cause unchecked throngs of Fractured, to weaken the wards and barriers placed by The Favored to seal away The First Spawn, allowing them to escape into the world. Their immense power and unfocused destructive capabilities were again once unleashed upon the world, but this time, countless lives of Kith were lost as well.
