Session 5: Corruption Report

General Summary

The characters continued down the path laid before them by this mystical forest.   That night, Savaeris during watch heard the sound of a scuffle off in the distance. Waking the party some continued toward the sound while Rue stayed beyond to guard the wagon.   Carefully progressing forward, they found 2 men dead half covered in black corruption on the ground around a lit campfire and a few tents. They searched the bodies to find a strange book and a mysterious vial of black roots broken.   The people seemed to have been fighting and killed each other.   The black roots seemed to be spreading and the cause of the dead elves' corruption. As they looked further into it, the roots started spreading further, reaching out to members of the party.   Using their powers they burned away the black roots to leave only dust, but with this encounter, a strange feeling overtook Peren and Thaelin as this was not anything from the natural world.   The party searched the tents to find supplies and other items.   Upon returning to the camp and investigating the book, it looked to be magically locked but had a music box affixed to the back.

2nd Brethil of the month En. (7th)

After some thought, Rue played a pleasant melody derived from the spinning of the dancer in the music box. The music box closed and the book unlocked, containing strange musical glyphs.   Continuing down the path, around evening the path seems to disappear to a grassy open area with a strange dark tree in the center. It seemed to be covered with darkness even in the day with bones astride a mound around it and a tent that seemed to have been damaged.   Approaching closer, a multitude of eyes glowing came from the center of the tree revealing some massive badgers covered in black and in rage. A battle ensued, and as they fought these creatures the tree seemed to reach out and attach the party as well. upon victory over these creatures, the strange tree swallowed one of the badgers only to them spit out a strange sight.   Covered in black fur and standing 6 feet tall, a man like badger is thrown from in side the tree, dripping with black drool and looking at the party with hunger and anger.
