Delaria
Delaria is one of the oldest known cities on Torthe, and although it is somewhat of a relic, with many of its buildings outdated and crumbling in parts, it remains a beautiful memorial to the ancient empire that once spanned hundreds upon hundreds of miles. It is still hugely wealthy, and rivers of gold from trade, flow through Delaria every month.
Defences
The Akeros are based in this city, the Crown Guard. They number exactly 2,000 warriors, many of them members of the Low Blood - and some of the High Blood who wish to dedicate themselves to the Crown Prince and Princess. They are the elite soldiers of Delvia, many of them descendants of heroes from a thousand years ago. There are always 2,000 members of the unit, most hereditary, and some named to the Guard upon a great deeds. Membership is not limited to Delvish soldiers, but in practice it is almost exclusively so.
Like most cities in Delvia, Delaria has units of the Amphorae, particularly stationed around the Eastern Docks.
Infrastructure
Temples are the most common building throughout Delaria, tall towers and many copies of the great Angel Tower, as well as fora, amphtheatres and other places of ancient architecture. New buildings are still constructed, but often on or around older, crumbling historical buildings which creates a tumbledown sort of elegance.
Assets
Key locations in Delaria include:
- Academy of Delvia: where wizards and sorcerers, and even just intelligent scholars from across the realm, learn and train.
- Angel Seat: the highest tower north of Kharasaki, the Angel Seat is a vast palace where the Crown Prince and Princess of Delvia, elected from the High Blood, live in almost constant seclusion from the people. Within the tower, many of the other aasimar High Blood live, forming a separate society, guarded by the Low Blood.
- Eastern Docks: Delaria has the joint-largest docks in the known world, equalled only by the Western Docks at Cymera (western side of Delvia). Although Delvia’s capital is in decline, the docks are in incredible condition, well maintained by the Low Blood.
- The Planetary Clock: an ancient relic, of platinum and titanium, created by Titans or elves, it has never been clear who, this feat of engineering stands in the centre of Delaria’s market district, telling the time at every point on the globe’s surface.
