The Thirteen Apprentices
History
The first (and only) class of Dweomercore, the 13 apprentices were the 13 mages who trained under Halaster Blackcloak. Frequently cited as 14 of the greatest mages to have ever lived, Halaster and his apprentices are foundational figures in the organized study of magic. Each of the 13 was a skilled mage, but most showed a particular affinity for certain types of magic, and developed its study personally. All 13 of the apprentices assisted Halaster in creating Undermountain, although accounts differ about how many of them remained in Undermountain. It is believed that all the apprentices either perished or vanished from this plane of existence. Rumors persist that some of their number were sacrificed by Halaster to secure his unending life and power, but these have never been corroborated.
