Changebringer Character in Torlas | World Anvil

Changebringer

The Changebringer (a.k.a. Alexi)

One of the only third-generation gods to be considered a Major God amongst the people, The Changebringer has a near-obsessive interest in the fates of mortals. This has earned her some level of spite amongst many other gods, the majority of which work to ensure fate is done.   The Changebringer, however, works heavily with fate-touched individuals to ensure they can do what they want. And, well, if they happen to help her with her own goals along the way? That's even better. It's not much of a surprise that she is so popular amongst mortals with a creed like that.   It's hard to ignore hope.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

One of the easiest ways to identify her is that she will always have, somewhere on her body, a green tattoo akin to a pinwheel that is the same as or similar to her holy symbol.

Apparel & Accessories

The Changebringer prefers wearing green, and amongst human populaces will often appear as a soothsayer or sandwalker.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

As is often the case with gods, little is known of her past. The fact that her true name is written here is because a handful of people she felt had earned her name was told it.   It has been inferred by some of the things she has said, however, that events surrounding the Third Sundering were what led to her fierce motivation to defy Fate in whatever way she can. According to the Traveller, she loved a man who was fated to befall a terrible fate and despite her powers and her pleads she couldn't save him.

Accomplishments & Achievements

The Changebringer's touch has been credited to the success of many adventurers since the start of the age of mortals. The most recent and, perhaps, explosive was the success of the Gauntlets against the Worldbreaker, but she has also been cited as an influence in the godhunts, a number of impossible survivals throughout the ages, in the Starhewn reclamation and most famously as one of the founders of the Valadrin.

Remnants

She was responsible for the creation of the Remnant known as the Tear of the Changebringer. A beautiful green gem set in a wheel-shaped amulet, it almost seems to dance with the goddess's mischief. The more it is awakened and used, the more the light within gleams and flickers, and the more delicate patterns are shown across the metal. It helps the user with a little dose of luck and immunity to many possible conditions.

Personality Characteristics

Virtues & Personality perks

A firm belief in morals and free will, generous

Vices & Personality flaws

Highly manipulative and prone to arrogance and pride

Personality Quirks

One of the best ways to identify that the mysterious woman who appeared in the room is the Changebringer is simple; most people that are contacted by her see her playing a game with an invisible opponent. It is why she is so often depicted alongside imagery of popular games and is widely thought to be a metaphor for her playing against fate.   This is incorrect. She is playing against the Glowing Scribe, and very often losing.

Social

Contacts & Relations

While she is known and worshipped by many, the Changebringer does not take many under her wing as champions she gives magic to, as other gods do. Instead she seeks out Fate-Touched for far more personal and guiding relationships. While some of these become divinely gifted champions of hers, many do not. Jorda is a famous example of one of these champions, and she was a reluctant friend to the Gauntlets as a whole in their fight against the Worldbreaker. Her relationship with Knell, however, was somewhat fraught due to her allegiance to the Traveller.

Family Ties

Her younger brothers, the Traveller and the Glowing Scribe, as well as their parents, the True Guard and the Light Daughter. Her relations with the Traveller is somewhat fraught as their domains sometimes overlap, and overall there is strain with her family members as she is doing work many of them don't fully agree with.
