Scope
The motivation behind building Toril
Building out a Faerun/Toril world to run through the various campaigns and shorter adventures and connect them together into a connected world and be reference-able to the players.
The goal of the project
Multiple connected D&D campaigns
Toril's Unique Selling point
While it will be using pre-written adventures, many of them will have added personal touches and hopefully playing in the same world with references to the past events players have experienced will create a feeling of connection.
Theme
Genre
Fantasy with some steampunk level of technology
Reader Experience
The world should feel vast and lived in, but that the characters still have plenty of room to leave their own mark on it.
Reader Tone
Somewhere in the middle. it's a world with evil gods and cults constantly vying for control with forces of good and people just trying to live their life. Life can be difficult for the average citizen and can be affected by terrible and amazing things and fixed by itinerant adventurers.
Recurring Themes
From the get go, recurring themes will likely shift from adventure to adventure. But ideas may develop as it goes.
Character Agency
Level of agency will be mixed, the intent is to play through pre-written modules which will by necessity have a constrained scope, but as the intent is to build our own continuity there is a plan to carry over continuity. If the characters actions lead directly or indirectly to an NPC being killed that reappears in a later adventure, that character will be replaced since they died (unless there is a good and not frustrating explanation for their resurrection). The intent is also to factor in characters from previous adventures, either through reference or direct cameo.
