Session 10: Hanging out in Zelbross. Report

General Summary

Session 10 – Wednesday September 7th, 2022 – Around Zelbross

4.5 Hour session 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM

The Stone Bearers. Party of 5:

It is the 18th day of the month of Marpenoth (Leaffall) in the 50th year of the Age of Enialis (Mid October.)

• Isabella – Forest Gnome L3 Barbarian – Jackie Armstrong
• Gurthen – Dwarf L3 Paladin – Spencer Armstrong (School)

Goals:

• Determine Ajani’s L1 and L2 spell scrolls.
• Can join the Adventurer’s guild
• Find out about the Red and White Ladies and report back to The Lord’s Alliance.
• Find out about mysterious slave trade in the High Forest.
• Return to Cobra to Pa’Kamsi Anepou at Runes and Relics in Zelbross for 200gp.
• Locate the Shield of Niptu and find where they’re hiding Niptu’s Body
• Disintegrate Niptu’s Body and let Revalor Miadi know. Revalor is hiding with family at cottage along the Delimbiyr River between Zelbross and Loudwater.
• Go to Niptu Shrine #1 to learn about Niptu’s magic
• Train the Hellhound Johny Cash
• Train the Bear Trinket.
• Clean out and purchase the Firestone Keep
• Zoreene’s Trial on the 23rd of Marpenoth

Returning to Zelbross

The party discussed what to do with the Animals and if they should go into town or to Lord Blackmoor's mansion. Thomas suggested that he and Isabella avoid the town and go to the Firestone keep with the animals. Gazlowe suggested taking the animals to the lab to do experiments on them. Realizing that it’s getting dark they decided to split up with Thomas and Isabella going to the ruined keep and the rest going to Lord Blackmoor's.

The party discussed their belief in the existence of the gods. Gazlowe explained his order of things being Gazlowe, then money, then people, then gods. Abrash said the gods are a complex matter and said that he had some thoughts in common with Gazlowe. Ajani expressed his reliance upon knowledge and hard work.

The man with the golden mask.

Mr. Holm met the three Stone Bearers at the door and looked worried. The party told him all was okay with the party. Mr. Holm then led the party to Lord Blackmoor. Lord Blackmoor asked if the party had seen Revalor and the party asked why he was asking. Lord Blackmoor took them to a secret room in the house where they could talk securely.

Lord Blackmoor explained that the Shield Niptu is looking for Revalor and that they’re also looking for the Stone Bearers. He said there were 4 men who came in and one of them was a previous guard that worked for his sister. Lord Blackmoor also told them that another large man on horseback wearing a black cloak and a golden mask remained outside while the others questioned him. Lord Blackmoor told them that he was quite intimidated and very concerned. Lord Blackmoor had told the men that he didn’t know where the Stone Bearers were nor when they’ll be back. He also had told the men that he didn’t know about Revalor. The intruders had told Lord Blackmoor that if he should see the Stone Bearer’s again, they should be sent to Revalor’s shop.

Lord Blackmoor paid the party for the past 16 days within his employ (2gp/day/person.) Gazlowe and Abrash provide the gold for Ajani to learn the two spell scrolls he had. Ajani spent the next 3 hours learning the 2 spell scrolls he had from Pa‘Kamsi and recorded them in his book (Comprehend languages and Immoveable object.)

Gazlowe went to the lab and talked with Abby. Abby was very excited to begin adventuring with him. She listed out about 150gp worth of items that she’ll need to be mounted in the Plate helmet and the mechanical items that Gazlowe can use to control the armor from within. Gazlowe asked about a mechanism where she could control the armor and Abby explained that would require a lot more work and suggested they first get her eyesight working.

Abrash spent most of the evening searching for specific plants that can be used for potions and such. He came across 5 uncommon plants that he knew could be used. The next day, he and Ajani would harvest them.

Approaching the Firestone keep.

Isabella with Trinket (the bear) and Thomas with the hell hound Johnny Cash approached the Firestone keep. Out of the dark, a stone from a sling struck Isabella. She got angry but couldn’t see exactly where it came from. Thomas removed the chain from the Johnny’s collar and said, “Bring me their souls.” The Hell Hound charged up the hill followed by Thomas, Isabella, and Trinket. As they climbed the hill, they found the Hell Hound sniffing and growling at the stone that blocked the stairwell. Johnny growled at Thomas and Thomas gave him a hag finger as a treat. Johnny started smelling the ground and stopped in front of a bush and began growling again. Isabella pulled out a hand axe and threw it into the bushes. They heard the axe clinking down stone stairs behind the cover of the bushes.

Into the keep.

Isabella and Thomas, along with their untrained pets, walked down the stairs. They found a door at the bottom of the stairs and Isabella opened it. 5 Kobolds were lying in wait for them in their guard room. Thomas ran in with his whip and took out one of the Kobolds. The Hell Hound ran in after Thomas and ripped another kobold to pieces. Isabella at the door took two hits from the Kobolds and began to rage. She killed one of the kobolds by just glancing her axe on its jugular artery. One of the kobolds thrust his dagger deeply into Thomas’s side. Johnny ripped into a 2nd Kobold and Isabella cut the last kobold in half with her axe.

Johnny dragged the kobold bodies in pile. Isabella chopped up a couple of beds and tried to barricade the door. Thomas took one of the chairs and jammed it under the door handle. They settled down in the room to get some sleep. Trinket licked up the kobold blood from the floor and seemed to enjoy it very much.

Introducing the animals to training.

Isabella, seeing that Trinket was enjoying the blood and seeming to calm down, thought it would be a good time to introduce Trinket to training. She sat next to Trinket and feed it kobold parts. Thomas tried to help her by explaining all he knew about bears. Unfortunately, they both failed miserably in their attempts and Trinket effectively rejected their attempts. He didn’t turn on them but they both knew that training was going to be very difficult. They also knew that if Trinket got hurt at this point he will most likely run away, and they’ll need to wait some time before they attempted any training.

Thomas then tried to introduce Johnny Cash to training. He was only slightly more successful than Isabella was. He decided it would be better to wait until tomorrow to continue. They all decided to just settle down in the room and get some sleep.

Runes and Relics

Ajani, Abrash and Gazlowe got up, had breakfast, and walked into town. Gazlowe mentioned that Abby needs a list of items so he can fashion for her some eyes. He needed to go into town and collect the funds from Pa’Kamsi, but he’d then need to visit the Clockwork Queen and spend most of the funds on the parts. Ajani, Abrash and Gazlowe all headed into town to visit Pa’Kamsi.

Pa’Kamsi was very happy to see the party and was very excited to see that they recovered the statue. He gladly handed over a bag of 200gp to Gazlowe. The party looked around and basically saw a medieval Good Will Store. Gazlowe saw some used mechanical components that he could use for his Armor contraption. Pa’Kamsi sold them for 5sp. He sold Ajani a cracked bone wand (A simple spell casting focus) for 5sp. He also sold Gazlowe a copper sauce pot for 5cp.

Trinket

Isabella and Thomas woke up. Isabella tried to put the chain back on the bear, but it wouldn’t let her. They removed the blockade from the door and Isabella and Trinket headed out. Isabella led Trinket by holding a bloody kobold arm. Thomas stayed behind as Isabella went up the stairs to the outside. Isabella emerged from the stairs with Trinket. Trinket looked around and saw that the chain had been removed. Isabella tried to call Trinket back, but Trinket saw the trees down the hill and walked away into the grove.

The Clockwork Queen

Abrash gave Gazlowe the card he received from the Clockwork Queen and Gazlowe went to the tower to find her. Punching in the code, the tower turned, and a door opened allowing Gazlowe in. He was greeted by a mechanical guard who pointed him to her office. Gazlowe went in and introduced himself, but the Clockwork Queen had never met Gazlowe. He explained that he was with the Stone Bearers, but she asked him to leave and to return the card he had that got him in. He refused and she called on Her Guard bot, C3, to escort him away. As the Guard grabbed Gazlowe to take him away, Gazlowe shouted out, “It’s for Abby!”

The Clockwork Queen told C3 to stop as she held back tears thinking of Abby. Gazlowe explained that he didn’t “steal” Abby but he’s working with her to finish a contraption to allow her to move and see along with him. The Clockwork Queen tried to justify her absence from Abby but realized that she had neglected her. She allowed Gazlowe to stay and he shared with her the list of items that he needed. The Clockwork Queen introduced herself as Tereene and reviewed the list.

Tereene saw several components that were outdated and offered some upgraded components and told Gazlowe it would be about 150gp. Gazlowe agreed to the new list. Tereene asked that once the body for Abby is complete that he bring her by. Gazlowe again agreed. Tereene had C3 take Gazlowe to the parts department for some components and then to take him to R2 in the Lab for some other components. Gazlowe paid the 150gp and went with the bot to get his parts.

Thomas and Johnny

Thomas and Johnny went deeper into the caves. Thomas found another room where he heard kobold mummering. He discovered the door was locked and then used a chair to try to jamb it under the knob to prevent it from opening. Leaving that room behind, they made their way down the hall and tripped the alchemy trap they had run into before. After putting out the flames on his arm they made their way to pit of acid that they crossed a few weeks before.

Isabella finds Abrash and Ajani

Isabella wandered back towards Lord Blackmoor's and ran into Ajani and Abrash collecting plants. Isabella explained that the Bear left her and Abrash suggested the talk to other beasts in the area. Isabella was hungry and ate some root plants. Ajani contemplated unlimited wealth and how he could help those in the desert without water.

Isabella said she was interested in honey. Abrash sang a song that called a Raven. The Raven led them to a beehive on a branch not too far away. Abrash created some smoke to calm the bees. Isabella climbed up on Abrash’s shoulders and reached her hand into the hive and got some honey and ate it. Ajani backed up, a bit worried. Abrash told Isabella to be careful as she reached in for more. Unfortunately, the 2nd time she slipped, and the entire hive broke free from the branch and stuck to her hand.

The bees stung Isabella and Ajani cast dragon’s breath of fire killing more than ½ of the bees. Isabella created a minor illusion of a queen bee flying away. Only 2 bees seemed to follow. Isabella jumped from Abrash and began rolling on the ground. Abrash cast poison spray and killed the remaining Bees saying, “Sorry” to the Bees.

The Hatchery

Johnny the hell hound jumped across the acid pit and looked down a path growling. Thomas secured a chain to the wall and sung across the pit towards the tunnel. A swarm of kobolds and 2 giant Weasels rushed Thomas. A Horn was blown and several of the Kobolds screamed passionately. One of the kobolds attacked Thomas and the Hell hound immediately killed it. Thomas killed another with his whip. A Kobold inventor ran up and threw acid on Thomas. Another Kobold hit the Hell Hound with a sling shot. Johnny jumped at it and destroyed him. Hurt, Thomas downed a healing potion.

The weasel bit and hurt Johnny and Johnny destroyed the weasel. Thomas hit the inventor but only wounded him. Johnny destroyed the 2nd weasel. The last remaining kobold hit Thomas with his dagger. Johnny leapt up and killed the last kobold. In the aftermath, Thomas gave Johnny a healing potion and searched the kobolds. He found 50 silver and saw the hall was the Kobolds Hatchery and had several kobold Eggs sitting in nesting areas.
