The party explores the warehouse on Candle Lane, a rundown structure showing every initial sign of being abandoned.

Entering from street level, the party found the upper offices abandoned, with only a lone Paper Bird remaining. The impression of abandonment did not survive their attempt at descending to the lower level, however; they found themselves beset by Kenku assassins of the Xanathar Guild, left behind to murder any further Zhentarim that might show up. After defending themselves from the assassins, the party was only able to complete a brief search that revealed the bodies of a number of Zhentarim and Xanathar Guild members, as well as the concealed holding cell of Renaer Neverember before the Waterdeep City Watch arrived. Senior Civilar Hyustus Staget questioned the party for a while until he was satisfied that their accounts matched the evidence at the scene before releasing them with warnings and a grudging thanks for their assistance to a person of Renaer's position and status.

Renaer, feeling responsible for Floon Blagmaar's abduction, joins forces with the party to help secure his release.
