Shadow dragons, occasionally referred to as twilight dragons, come into existence when a Dragon's soul becomes bound to a lower plane, which may include the Shadowfel. This binding can occur through various means, such as contractual agreements or manipulation of dragon eggs. Shadow dragon feed vampirically on all forms of energy.

Characteristics

Physical features

THe first to witness one of those dragon throught of their appearance not as a shadow, but more akin to the day turning to night, like twilight as experienced on Toriel. She thus dubbed them twilight dragons.
Physically reemble black dragons, but they seem insubstantial, and have dark and translucent scales with greenush, red, or more commonly, amethyst light which help them camouflage into the darkness around them.
A dragon egg can be identified as that of a shadow dragon by the purple tinge seen when held in front of an intense white light, though it share this trait with deep dragon and amethyst dragon eggs.

Abilities

Shadow dragons have the ability to feed off of magical energy. However, shadow dragons are physically weak compared to other dragons. Shadow dragons also possess the ability to turn incorporeal at will, allowing attacks to pass through their bodies without harming them, though they cannot remain incorporeal indefinitely. This incorporeality is caused by them shifting into another plane known as the Twilight Realm. Strong twilight dragons such as Ultraxion, Halion, and Valiona and Theralion are also able to pull other people into the Twilight Realm with them.

Breath

A shadow dragon's breath is a cone of shadows. Creatures caught in it lose parts of their vitality, skills, and spells, possibly permanently, all while temporarily empowering the dragon. They can train their breath weapon to turn those they kill with it into spectral creatures who are then permanently enslaved by the shadow dragon.
