Resonance Organization in Toriel | World Anvil

Resonance

The Resonance is a psionic cult settled in the Isolation Desert, exclusively comprising dragonborns and kobolds who share a unique belief: their souls are born from the power of dragons.
We stand on those hollow grounds, our soul lives with the fire of the dragons that once roamed our lands.
Embracing this belief, they dedicate themselves to cultivating their minds to expand their psionic power. Unlike most dragonborns, the Resonance venerates dragons as their ancestors, with a special reverence for their patron deity, Arygos.   In their perspective, the influence of other gods is viewed as corrupting, attempting to seize their psionic power and essence. Arygos, however, is seen as an exception, having opened his mind to attain new heights.

Admittance

The Resonance is a psionic cult settled in the Isolation Desert, exclusively comprising dragonborns and kobolds who possess psionic powers.

Hierarchy

Cult members are expected to continually perfect their psionic abilities, but reaching a certain point poses a challenge, where the mind's strengthening becomes difficult. At this juncture, a member can ascend in the hierarchy by undergoing a ritual known as "The Offering." In this ceremony, the cultist receives an ancient artifact from the cult's vault, sacrificing their sanity to gain the power bestowed by the artifact.   These artifacts are ancient items infused with the influence of Arygos. However, those who possess these items are plagued by constant whispers from the god, gradually driving them to madness.

The Senses

From the ranks of cultists who willingly sacrificed their sanity to Arygos, the god selected five individuals to act as his eyes and ears within the desert. These chosen ones are known as the Senses and maintain a direct connection with the god.

History

The cult was founded by Scarlet Briar, a dragonborn who underwent the ritual of the offering before the establishment of the cult. This granted her formidable psionic powers, accompanied by the constant whispers of the mind god, Arygos. According to Resonance, Scarlet did not succumb to madness but claimed to be enlightened by these whispers.   Driven by her newfound enlightenment, Scarlet devoted herself to serving Arygos. She embarked on a quest to gather powerful artifacts, which the dragon god absorbed, growing stronger with each acquisition. The cult believes that Arygos, in appreciation of Scarlet's dedication, offered her the esteemed reward of sacrificing herself. In doing so, Arygos would absorb her soul, integrating her into the godhood he aspired to achieve—an offer Scarlet willingly accepted.
