Divination in Toriel | World Anvil

Divination

The magical School of Divination is centered around revealing and granting knowledge and information to the caster. Useful for reading ancient scripts, identifying magical items, and seeing invisible enemies.   The divination school of Magic contains spells that enable the caster to learn secrets long forgotten, interpret dreams, predict the future, to find hidden things or foil deceptive spells. Among them are included detection magic and scrying. A wizard who specializes in divination is known as a diviner.   Divination is the school of magic dedicated to gathering information. Powerful divination can allow the mage to see targets from a great distance, or even view what may normally be invisible. One of the most common uses of divination magic is scrying, which is the art of seeing something that may be far away—perhaps even on another plane of existence. Divination spells can be used to counteract Illusion spells. The school of divination is probably one of the hardest schools to learn in Toriel, at least when it comes to the main school of magic. The flow of the Weave is so often disrupted by various means, such as the presence of so much magic that it prevents divination, divination wizard can have a hard time exercising their art.   When a spell or effect rooted in a school of magic is unleashed, the weave takes on the characteristics and appearance of this magic, such as the characteristic silver glow of divination.

Culture

Divination spellcasters occasionally resort to the use of hallucinatory drugs, as the vivid and altered perception they induce can aid in accessing and interpreting divination visions. By temporarily altering their state of consciousness, these spellcasters seek to enhance their cpnnection to the weave, or ability to receive visions.

Subschools

Scrying

Spells from this subschool create an invisible sensor that allows the creator to experience events over long distances. Intelligent creatures can sometimes get the feeling that they are being watched while under this kind of observation, and several spells and items can interrupt the sensor.
