Abjuration in Toriel | World Anvil

Abjuration

The abjuration school of Magic encompassed protective spells. They created physical or magical barriers, negated magical or physical abilities, harmed trespassers, or even banished the subject of the spell to another plane of existence. The abjuration school had no subschools. A wizard who specialized in abjuration was known as an abjurer.   Abjuration is the study of protective magic. The most generalized abjuration spell is the shield spell, a spell that transmutes the Weave into a barrier that protects the caster from attacks. the mage armor spell requires far less raw energy than a shield spell and is more easily maintained over time, but lacks the raw potency of the shield spell. Ward spells are quick, potent incantations to protect the caster against a form of magical damage, often caused when magic slips out of a mage's control.   When a spell or effect rooted in a school of magic is unleashed, the weave takes on the characteristics and appearance of this magic, such as the characteristic light blue glow of abjuration.
