Davn

Clan Dav'nes home

Created by Hunter White
There once was a Mar'ke nomad, his name was Nai Dav'n. Nai sailed across the Mesmic ocean soon after the gods departed from Tor, his goal was to find a home for his family away from the destruction of their home land. Nai's sails took him and his crew all over the western coasts of Venor and Kare'Gora in search of this new home. During this voyage he found an uninhabited island off the coast of southern Gora. The dirt was such a dark brown it was almost black, the water was fresh from the mountain at the center of the island, and plant life grew very easily on the island. He named the island Niv after his wife and made a home inland near the dense jungle around the base of the mountain. He began trading food from his old home to the locals on the main land, the Nawanii, and for years this was how Nai and his family lived. However that changed when the Manorans settled more and more of the near by coast. it was never their land, it was the Nawanii's, and many other tribes but he was few and they where many. Eventually the trade stopped and Nai never herd from any of his Nawanii from the main land again, the Manorans came for his land soon after. The town of Davn and the Dav'n clan remembers his sacrifices from stories passed down generation to generation.   Before you even catch sight of town you find the pleasant smell of orange fields on your nose. You coast up the top of the hill and see miles upon miles of farm land with a small town in the center, you also see the coast barely on the horizon, allowing you to catch sight of Lesow, and Zenu. Little trails of smoke rise and dissipate in the air from the 400 to 500 buildings in town, and a river coming from the jungle to the South East runs right through town toward Zenu in the West. This jungle is very large with several felled trees being loaded into carts. These carts are being dragged by some beast of burden near the closest part of the jungle to Davn. In the center of the jungle lies a towering mountain with a dulled peak covered in snow. Descending this hill toward Davn you get a better look at the farms, most of them have wind mills at the top of the rolling hills, or water mills at the base of said hills, where the river is. as you get closer and closer to town several citizens walking the main road or working in fields give you strange glances but return to their work soon after. Walking into town through the guarded palisade a group of children run by playing with a leather ball, one of their parents yelling to not go to far. After that the smell of some pastry hits your nose along with many other foods, however their doesn't seem to be any market place or vendor distributing food. Walking along the stone road you find that it continues all the way to the other side of town, however there are many dirt roads that lead past the Victorian and thatch buildings to various other parts of town.

Government

The town of Davn like most other towns on the Manoran coast have a government that is protected and regulated by the Mana Guard, as part of this the towns people elect their officials. These officials include The captain of the local Mana Guard, The Lawseeker/ Mayor, Their Representative for confederacy meetings, and The Trade Master.

Industry & Trade

The town of Davn completely relies on lumber and farming to gain exterior money, this lumber is sold to trades in Zenu, Lesow, and Eszaki Kikoto. However the food farmed from plants and animals are sent directly to towns on the island including Davn itself.

Infrastructure

The town of Davn is about .7 miles from edge to edge with one stone road going from the North Eastern palisade gate to the South Western one. The palisade wraps around the entirety of the town with the farms and farm houses on the outside. several wind mills dot the hills on the outskirts of town grinding grain and other materials for use later. Back in town there are 3 bridges that go over the river that runs through the western half of the town, the bridge on the main stone road has the local Forte on the eastern side, same as the barracks. The northern part of town is home to any furnaces or other blacksmiths tools needed for smiting, and is home to the largest well in town. Several outhouses dot the town for public use, though most people make their own near their homes. There is one school in town, this school is for children of age 8 to 12 and is maintained and organized by the mana guard.

History

The tropical village of Davn was settled fairly recently, about 50 to 100 years ago. Nai Dav'n did not set up his home here, however most of his decedents moved here to honor his blood by forming a large clan. most of these decedents where scattered in the 3 towns on the island Niv Davnum, these towns include Eszaki Kikoto, Lesow, and Zenu. Davn is where most lumber comes from on the island, and has the most room for farmland out of all of the other towns on the island. Due to this the town has grown fairly rapidly over the years to about 1100 occupants.

Geography

Davn rests in the rolling grass hills at the north western boarder of the jungle. The center of town rests at the base of a hill with a river running from the volcano (Niv Davnum) to the coast just west of Davn, near Zenu. The jungle at the back of the village beyond the palisade wall is a dense and lush jungle rain forest that slowly climbs in elevation to reach the base of Niv Davnum. Several paths of basalt and obsidian extend from the volcano through the jungle in areas where volcanic activity is frequent.

Natural Resources

Davn supplies the whole island of Davnum With the lumber harvested from the jungle surrounding (The volcano at the center of the island) Niv Davnum. This lumber is very soft and flexible when soaked, but when dried it becomes hard and sturdy, a fantastic building material. On the outskirts of the town farm land is abundant and extremely fertile. Many foods are grown here, like Rice, lettuce, cabbage, cherry tomatoes, oranges, lemons, amaranth, and various peppers. Though mining at the mountain may seen profitable, the locals would take great offence to this, and would not be tolerated.
