Light Sails

Developed by Grimm in the year of 1094 in Recorded History, Light Sails is technology developed during the Colonization Era to advance both airships and naval ships overall design that ended up replacing a lot of prior sails.
Light Sails are extremely light, tough, and silky material that has special interaction with the magically charged atmosphere of the High Seas Archipelago. It uses a special metal found in the High Seas Archipelago that was ground into a dust and inlayed inbetween layers of Vereen. This dust when hit with a magical burst of energy would light up giving the sails their name.
Design and Planning
Once Drake D'Awna began stressing a new defensive platform to take on pirates in the Upper Isles, Grimm engineers immediately went to work with lead engineer being a gnome named Gatson Grollard. 
Gatson was fascinated with the Sky Bison that roamed the Upper Isles. After one had collided in a freak accident with the MAS1 Destus, he was onsite to help with repairs. After examining the deceased Sky Bison he noticed the Vereen that coated the bottom of their tails. After examining the flying skiffs of the local Air Genasi Gatson determined that this was the route to new sails that can interact with the magical atmosphere and provide a form of propulsion as it flies through the air. 
Unfortunately Gatson was stumped once again though as their first prototype never did more than glide impressive amounts. It was actually an elven scientist by the name of Lhoris Nhagella that realized that the Vereen needed a constant magical energy source to activate the propulsion affects seen with the Sky Bison. By inlaying the unknown metal dust that reacted with the atmosphere the Light Sails came into fruition. 
Production and Implementation
Light sails take extremely valuable materials that can be hard to come by. The unknown ore that is ground to dust is presumed to be found in mines from The Continent and then transported to the High Seas Archipelago to be combined with the Vereen. Vereen, while not extremely rare, is hard to find in large quantities due to it coming mostly from various exotic creatures of the Archipelago, mostly from the Upper Isles. 
First Implementation
The first successful implementation seen was on the ship the VLS Legacy .
