Elf

Elves are the most ancient of the races, created by the Mother in the first days. Alone of the races, the elves claim the first ascended among their number, paying homage to the deeds of those who rose up against the cruel gods even if what followed was perhaps worse. Elves make up the majority of clerics and healers within the Great Cities, stoically bearing the disdain shown to those who still follow the teachings of the dead gods. Some elves even go so far as to worship Ascended directly. Such cults are often ended quickly by lynch mobs. Elves are a friendly, open race. Most elves are trained in medicine and offer aid to anyone who needs it, following the lost teachings of the Mother.

Relationship Ideals

In a traditional elven marriage, the husband is expected to provide for the upkeep and enrichment of their lands. Elves do not traditionally own property, which means finding a suitable location for a home to be made with only what can be gathered from the land or given freely by the plants and animals. While the husband ranges far and wide to gather food, tend to the plants and animals of their home, and speak with the neighbors, the wife cares for those animals that become elffriends, raises the children, and produces art using what her husband as procured.

History

Elvish history teaches that they are the first race, given to the world by the gods as a gift. Elves tend to the creatures and plants of the world, caring for all things and following the ways of the gods. Though they participated in the Godwar and were part of Ancient Si'yla, elves never fully turned away from the gods. Many of the plains elves still revere the teachings of the Mother, and almost every cleric of the Mother is an elf. The elves who turned away from the other mortal races after seeing the horrors of the Ascendancy War became known as the Tunnel Elves, building a replacement for their lost culture beneath the earth. These hold to the Matron, sticking together and being coldly indifferent to the suffering of the other mortal races.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Unlike many races, elves will allow half-elves to live in their communes. However, this is only allowed if the non-Elven parent is entirely absent from the child's life.
