Grung

The grung were prolofic in the central gulf of Ostrea (hence The Toad Sea), and due to their high birthrates they're somewhat nomadic (similar to ostreans but water-born).

They're culturally very opportunistic and since they travel both by land and sea, that means they tend to happen upon lost novelties and treasure more often than any other species.

They also tend to end up in lots of trade jobs as any one colony of grung will have hundreds of workers to cover various roles in the tribe. But they also suffer from in-fighting on who gets to keep what loot, who gets to do what job etc. So a lot of grung colonies break apart especially if they come upon something interesting and nobody can agree on how to split their findings/rewards.

This is another reason why there's no true mother city for grungs in Ostrea; when your colony is so big, it's difficult to contribute to it in a way that increases your own quality of life.

Therefore many grung choose split off and start their own tribes, or they live among other species in contemporary society.

Then there's other cultural quirks: They give their own a name both at birth and at death, the latter generally coinciding with their cause of death. Land-based grung have created vessels for transporting and resting in water, though most tend to prefer finding a natural pond or pool.

Many of their delicacies integrate insects into conventional cuisines (bug trail mix, slug pizza, cricket sandwiches, apples with worms inside, etc).

Notable Grungian surnames across toivoa include The Barreltoads, The Seatoads, The Bullfrogs, The Treefrogs, The Rainfrogs and The Glassfrogs. (these are the most commonly recognized descendants of grung but a handful of them are associated with the feats of specific grung throughout history.)
