Mycircuitry

Related Species
Mycircuitry is the english name for the technology the Utrom use on their planet. It's name is a pun of circuitry and mycelium, as it is based on a fugus.

Description

Mycircuitry is derived from a fungus found on Planet X. This fungus acts as a powerful neural network, where information can be transferred through root systems. Together the hivemind-like network acts as a massive brain that is smarter than a thousand earth computers.   Visually it appears as a pink, fleshy looking substance. It is often coated in a thin layer of mucus and is known to writhe ever so slightly. It can grow bio luminescent eyes which appear to react to stimuli around it. It can branch off using long tentacles that is uses to interact with the world and make contact with other creatures.

Utility

Mycircuitry can be actively manipulated by the Utrom when they make a psychokinetic link to the neural network, this allows them to construct tech they can then use. Almost all of their infrastructure uses some form of this this bio-technology, as mycircuitry can be used to reinforce walls or maintain hull integrity. Mycircuitry is the basis of all of their technology, from computers, powering homes, and piloting space ships.   Connecting to the mycircutry requires it's tendrils to make contact directly with the brain or spinal cord of the organism. Utrom a almost entirely brain, so they connect with their Ceribric Socket. When an Utrom connects to the mycircuity, their minds are fully melded with the entire super organism, and can control it as if it were a natural part of their bodies. Other creatures with powerful enough minds, such as humans or humanoid Mutants, could potentially also connect with it, but the risk of nerve brain damage from disconnecting is higher. This is because the tendrils will dig into the flesh of the organism to find a connection point.

Manufacturing

Creating an item or structure using mycircuitry starts small. A spore from a living sample can be taken and planted, and then cultivated into the desired form. Usually this requires a fair amount of care as young primordiums are delicate and fragile. Once the fungus has grown it's first tentacle it can be connected with an commanded to take different forms from there. Mutagen can act as a suitable growth formula for the fungus, encouraging faster growth.

Weakness

Despite is organic look, the fungus is still a plant, and can be killed with acidic substances like weed killer or anti-fungal agents can damage or even kill mycircuitry.
