Abyssal Weaver

Overview

The Abyssal Weaver is a large arachnid-like creature, likely left behind after the Battle of Iknothep. Its biology, from observations, suggests it was originally parasitic in nature to a much larger organism. In our universe it has adapted to a role likened to an aggressive and territorial predator. While many have tried to capture the creature and make use of its raw abilities for their own ends, the unrivalled power of the creature has made all attempts unsuccessful. Many souls have ended up slaughtered by the creature, though some survivors have found substantial uses for the creatures byproducts, most notably the Voidheart Resin as a unique source of energy.

All information contained below comes from survivor accounts, information is only included where more than 1 source agreed. Conflicting information has been omitted.

Anatomy

The Abyssal Weaver stans at a full height of 4.3 metres (approximate) with 8 legs and 4 arm-like appendages. Its body is covered in a series of tendrils and tentacles which can emerge from beneath the segments of its hard yet flexible chitinous exoskeleton. Its elongated cephalothorax is adorned with shifting iridescent markings that mesmerize and disorient its prey. Further accounts of its anatomy are vague and contradictory from survivor accounts.

Sensory Abilities

The Weaver is an expert hunter, with multifaceted eyes that grant it heightened visual acuity and limbs that grant it significant speed and advantages over all sorts of terrain. Given its extradimensional origin, it is likely it can perceive dimensions beyond mortal comprehension. From survivor accounts it seems to be able to sense disturbances in the cosmic fabric detecting intruders long before they enter its domain.

Genetics and Growth

The Abyssal Weaver is a creature not native to our universe yet clearly it evolved from a parasitic relationship with a much larger eldritch organism. Its ability to adapt and survive in our realm is not only impressive but also alarming. From obtained samples, its genetic code far exceeds the complexity of any creature known to science but thankfully the detachment from its realm appears to have weakened its power substantially. While it has been observed to yield offspring they do not appear strong enough to survive beyond a few weeks.

Habitat and Diet

Little is known about the Weavers original habitat, though now it makes its lair within the depths of an asteroid found in the Iknothep system utilizing the natural caverns as its web-laden domain. It thrives in this darkness where it can remain undisturbed awaiting prey and drawing weak sustenance from the residual eldritch energies of the void. The weaver feeds by draining its prey of their essence through its barbed appendages though it does not appear gain any significant benefit from this as it can go years without nourishment seemingly unaffected. This suggests that it eats more for pleasure rather than out of biological necessity.

Behaviour, Psychology and Intelligence

The behaviour of the weaver can be described as solitary and reclusive, likely because of being cut off from its native realm. Rarely does it venture beyond the confines of its cave unless threatened. It displays highly territorial behaviour, defending its lair with malevolent intent. The creature displays a formidable level of intelligence demonstrating deep cunning and strategic thinking through the creation of elaborate traps and it can effectively anticipate the moment of intruders within its domain. While sentience is highly implied, no science team has dared take the risk to fully assess the creature.

Byproducts

The Weaver produces a few notable byproducts which have been found to be useful and extremely valuable, such as its shed exoskeleton fragments that can be crafted into occult artifacts, not to mention the void silk which can be fashioned into incredibly durable, resistant armour as thin as a tissue but possessing the resistance of steel. The most coveted byproducts however is the Voidheart Resin, a black iridescent substance secreted from its spinnerets that possesses potent eldritch properties with a multitude of applications.

Note : Observations of the surrounding space suggests the accumulation of Voidheart resin weakens the surrounding space-time fabric. Likely an attempt by the creature to tear open a rift and return to its home. Since the creature enters a dormant state following the successful secretion of the resin, extraction of the substance during this time is strongly encouraged to prevent the risk of another incursion from its realm.
