Shade Corps

Every well run kingdom has an underside, and Tjiramor is no different. Queen Alia may rule the public face of the kingdom and Ananport, but the Guild of Whispers oversees what happens in the shadows (although it is very likely that the Crown is at least informed, if not an active participant in the Guild’s activities).
The current Guild leader is Erasmus Petit. His role with the Guild is Ananport’s most well-known secret, as has been tradition for Guild leaders going back 150 years or more.
Petit is never seen in public without two or three members of the Shade Corps. The Corps’ purpose is to guard the life of the Guild leader.
Not surprisingly, running the Guild of Whispers invites a certain amount of risk to one’s person. For years, the Guild Leader has chosen members of the Corps to serve as their bodyguards.
It is said the Guild Leader is never unattended. Never.
The Corps typically consists of 25 members of the Guild. The Corps serves no other purpose than guarding the Leader. The members don’t assume other offices in the Guild and don’t ply their trade of whispers and shadows. They guard.
Members of the Corps are chosen for their loyalty to the current Guild leader. Fighting skill is appreciated but so is magic and the ability to recognize and treat poison. Intelligence gathering is also represented among the Shade Corps.
Most Corps members have been Guild members for at least 15 years. This is not a job for apprentice thieves.
Once selected for the Corps, members are exempt from paying Guild dues. They receive lodging in at least one of the Guild’s safe houses. The Guild leader is responsible for supplies and discretionary funds.
Above all else, the Corps is loyal to the Guild leader. They protect against  and inform the leader of any threats. They will remove the threat makers when necessary. And, it should go without saying, that loyalty to a a Guild leader other than the one currently claiming the office can also be appreciated. Sometimes the Guild leadership has changed before the outgoing Guild leader realizes it.
