Quill of Duplication

The Order of the Scrivener created the Quill of Duplication through a combination of arcane and divine arts.   The Quill may be used only by the Head Scribe or the current ruler of Ananport. In normal use, the Quill produces its own ink on any writing surface. This ink cannot be destroyed. It is said that even if the paper is burned, the inked words remain and can be reassembled by the Order, although no one outside the Order knows how that might happen, and the Order isn't telling.   Its more amazing use, however, occurs when the Head Scribe or Ruler uses the Quill to write in the Book of All Worlds. Anything written in this fashion simultaneously appears on blank paper or other writing surfaces that are placed on the same table where the Scribe or Ruler is writing in the Book of All Worlds. The writing appears, for example, on every page in a stack of paper. The writing will even appear on blank pages of others books on the table. This makes it easier for the Order and the Ruler to distribute information throughout the kingdom.   Unlike normal use of the Quill, writing generated from the Book of All Worlds is destroyed if the writing surface is destroyed.   The need for the Quill became apparent when false priests began to work against the will of the Light Bringer. They rewrote parts of the Book of Light to mirror their desires, not the desires of the Light Bringer. They placed these copies throughout Tjiramor in an effort to corrupt the Church.   Light Bearers prayed for guidance. The Light Bringer told them to combine their talents with those of the Majutsu. The priests received divine instructions, which the mages were able to carry out, thus creating the Quill of Duplication and the Book of All Worlds.   The priests and mages who participated in the ritual were the first members of the Order of the Scrivener. They reside in a small manor house near the palace. The Quill and Book of All Worlds is kept in a secret location, in or near the manor. A scribe is always with the Book. The Quill is always with the Head Scribe.   The Ruler often uses the Quill to issue Royal Decrees. He or she may do so, but the Head Scribe must be present.   The Book of All Worlds cannot be destroyed or altered. If a Head Scribe or Ruler wishes to change something already written, they must first write about the details of and the reasons for the change. These words are not duplicated and do not change previous pages in the book. Instead, the previous page now contains a cross reference to the new page.   The Book of All Worlds never runs out of new pages. Few have seen the book to speak about if the Book is immense or if needed pages for reference appear in response to the reader's need.
