Lathander
Lathander, whose title is The Morninglord, is a deity of creativity, dawn, renewal, birth, athletics, spring, self-perfection, vitality, and youth. He favors those who dispell the undead and bless those who plant new life. Lathander is also the god called upon to bless birth and fertility related ceremonies. By many of his followers he is also simply called "The Light".
Description
Lathander's visage radiates the bright shine of the morning sun and his hair burns with flaming orange-red fire. Lathander appears as a handsome, young, slender-muscled human man. His preferred clothes are a set of colorful robes of reds, pinks, and yellows. A red and golden sash embraces the god's waist. He wears golden sandals and leaves scorch marks everywhere his feet touch the ground. Lathander often floats and likes to materialize in a glorious spectacle of dawn sun beams. His radiant face darkens akin to sun eclipse when the god was angered or upset. He as all other deities, has the ability to trascend gender and race depending on who he is speaking to.
Worshipers
Novices in the Lathanderian faith are called the Awakened, while clerics are known as Dawnbringers. The full priests take a new name in his service when they are ready to signify that Lathander personally recognizes and accepts them. This new name can either be used instead of their old name or simply used only when addressing other Dawnbringers and when in solitary prayer. Titles used by Dawnbringers (in ascending order) are: Dawngreeter, Dawnlord, High Dawnlord, Dawnmaster, Morninglord, High Morninglord, Mornmaster, High Mornmaster, and Sunrise Lord. Morninglord is the title for an elite cleric. All followers are required to be of neutral to good alignment.
All of Lathander's clergy respect art, liberty, nature, and culture; promote betterment of oneself; and strive to bring hope to their followers and others. Many of these followers work in various creative arts. They are intolerant of evil, especially undead and inaction that caused evil to prosper. This has caused a rift in the six churches of
Acropolis as worship of
Myrkul has arisen, spurred by the royally endorsed Church of
Hecate. Most ceremonies of Lathander are held at dawn and actions and contracts agreed to at sunrise are said to be blessed by him. Funerals, among his followers, are held at dusk, and followed by a wake that lasts until dawn.
