Kalashtar are created when a quori inhabits the mind of a mortal and forms an intimate connection with their consciousness (the descendants of ‘first generation’ kalashtars are also considered kalashtars most of the time). Once this connection is formed, the two beings can always find their way to one another while they occupy the same plane. In many cases, the quori will choose to stay cohabitated in the mortal’s physical form for some time, though both mortal and quori can end this cohabitation at will. The actual birth of a first generation kalashtar happens mere hours after the initial connection as they emerge as a fully formed infant from their mortal parents brain. (This is established in a fiction oneshot and may be a romanticization of fact or pure fabrication.)
