Daffodil

Dha’lliya “Daffodil” Willowrun (they/she) is a character played by Hollis (they/them) in Arc 3: Dragon Counter Courters.

Description

Dha’lliya is a wood Elf, level 6 college of spirits Bard. They are tall and willowy, a little over six feet tall and rail thin. They seem oddly ghostly despite being perfectly solid: not only do they have a natural silence to their movement, but everything about them appears faded, as though someone turned the saturation way down on a photograph. Skin and hair that obviously used to be vibrant and colorful are now muted and pale. Her eyes are a lusterless gold, and don’t appear to reflect light correctly. Large pointed ears droop on either side of their head. Their two front teeth stick out ever-so slightly. There is a long scar across her face, beginning from her right cheek and ending just under her left eye. You’ll never see them without their large black hat, wide-brimmed and adorned with a preserved daffodil.   Dha’lliya is a very distant person, never fully in the present. They often speak to people who don’t appear to be there, or ignore conversations happening around them entirely in favor of listening to something no one else can hear. Her expressions are often half-hearted: only the smallest of smiles and the slightest of frowns can be seen on her lips. That’s not to say they aren’t friendly – in fact they’re very kind, generous to a fault, and often blind to the faults of those they care about. They just aren’t especially warm or proactive in their friendships.

Backstory

Dha’lliya left home in their nineties, before they were even considered an adult, and followed the heroic adventuring party that saved their hometown in hopes of becoming their bard, spinning their legend in song and story. The group traveled together for some time, becoming a fast family, until one day the party came face to face with an enemy they weren’t prepared for. The conflict ended in the death of the entire party with the exception of Dha’lliya, who was spared for being young. But the party refused to abandon Dha’lliya when she needed them more than ever, so their spirits attached themself firmly to Dha’lliya’s flower and began to assist from beyond the veil. Now when Dha’lliya tells their tales, the spirits of the party themselves take action on her behalf. Since then, Dha’lliya has traveled with several parties, always departing shortly after the death of yet another party member. Anyone they write a song about has died, so they’ve stopped writing songs about the people they love.

Trivia

  • The daffodil they wear on their hat was preserved by a member of their first party, and is the source of their nickname. It also acts as their arcane focus.
  • Their nickname was inspired by the Florence + the Machine song of the same title.
  • Hollis has sketched a picture of Daffodil, seen here, and has made a couple of picrews, seen here: X X.
  • Dha’lliya’s hometown is a majority wood elf settlement called Ambergate. It is located along the Redwillow’s border in the northern half of the continent, though not close to The Tundra.
