Dragon
Located on the Planet Dakur, the Dragons are the largest species in the Tir-Ne-Mur. Their asscension is unique in that they can choose which form they woud like to take, man or dragon.
There are several different "ethnicities" of dragons.
Ruled by a king appointed by divine intervention.
One of the only Patriarcal societies in the galaxy
In the age of book one they are nearly extinct.
Basic Information
Anatomy
They can chose between two forms, that of a man or that of a Dragon. when they are born they are born into the form their mother was when they were born.
In the form of a man, they do have supernatural abilites in strength, cunning, and raw physical prowess. They are really hard to kill, and can live many thousands of years. They are not immortal. Note: Once they are mated, or find their true mate, they will take the form of their mate.
In the form of a Dragon, they stand on four legs with sharp talons scaling the back of the limbs. They have enourmous wings that are used for flight. They come in several species, and it is dependent upon their ethnicity. Some breathe fire, some poison spores, some acid, and some a rare blue fire. Each ethnicity has a "house" that governs mating rituals, and arranges marriages when no mate is present to ensure the survival of their dragon breed.
The king does not have a breed and he is not beholden to the form of man or dragon and is the only one who can change between forms. he has the ability to mate with all breeds of dragon to either boost or destroy a breed. Because he is the embodiment of dragon, his offsprint will be the breed of the mother.
Genetics and Reproduction
In dragon form, they will lay and egg and the child will start life as a baby dragon. Once it reaches its 200 th year they will enter a growth cycle that allows them to chose their form. During this time they can change back and forth until the come to a decision. usually if one is born in dragon form they will stay in dragon form.
In the form of man they are a live birth, and will have the same growing cycle as their beast counterparts. Once they reach their two hundreth year they can switch back and forth before making their choice of what form to take.
there is always a public choosing ceremony.
Many who start as man will stay as man, but some realize their dragon is calling them and that call is stronger.
Growth Rate & Stages
They have a 200 year maturation cycle just like the rest of the galaxy. They stay in an infant state for about 50 years where they requre their mothers milk to survive. once they reach childhood, they still depend on their mother to feed them. usually she will chew thier food for them before feeding the child.
in the form of man, they have a similar cycle only once they reach the child stage they are able to eat of their own power, as there is no hunting requred for food. their mothers can prepare food, unlike the dragon form.
Adolescence begins arout 150 years. In this stage they begin to go through changes that signify their upcoming maturation. females will have a cycle that will start during this time that is preparing their bodies for reproduction. it is not unlike the human menstration. Males voices will change, and they will begin to develop a stronger muscular form.
Ecology and Habitats
Drakos is the largest planet in the system, and each ethicity has their own temple, and their own continent that suits their breed. The main city, Arvendon, is the home of the king of all dragons who dwells in Arvendon Keep. This is a neutral city not belonging to a single breed, but to all dragons.
Cities will have dwellings for those who chose to live in the form of man, and dwellings for their counterpart that are much larger, usually situated on the cliffs of a nearby mountain. These huge dwellings will all have a large open area for the dragon to take flight.

Dietary Needs and Habits
Both forms of the dragon are carnivores. Even in "human" form they posess extremely sharp teeth, and fangs.
The planet has huge mamalian animals that the dragon hunts for food. the ones in "human" forms raise and breed the mamals and run hunting grounds for the cities dragons.
Biological Cycle
dragons will shed their scales once a year and grow more. Some breeds of dragons hibernate, usually the breeds that are beholden to a season like the ice dragons, and the fire dragons.
Behaviour
In dragon form they are not animalistic or feral, they are quite sentient and intelligent. But they are also ferocious and could rip apart an Animiri inside of seconds.
The king of the dragons is a very elitist biggot who waged a war on the half breeds, and one specific breed of dragons, The azurite dragon. It is because this dragon line was prophesied to bring about the vessel of the chosen. The dragons beleived in the same theory about the chose. that was that she would bring nothing but death and destruction to the galaxy. And she would use the azurite dragons blue flames, which the Animiri are very weak to and is one of the only things that can kill one, to destroy the drgons.
it is this reason that the king began killing off every azurite he could. soon the people began to revolt seeing the burned settlements of half breeds with their burning bodies filling the air with smoke. This began the 100 year war that ended in the near extinction of all dragonkind.
when the fighting stoped, because the casualties were great, the king was cursed by his own seer that the one he fought his entire life to prevent would be his one true mate and the mother of his heir. She then used the last of her power to bind the curse. he would sit on the throne of his dead kingdom rotting away until a half-breed queen came to revive him. This cure was issued the day Aella was born.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
in their dragon form they have telepathy, and only communicate in this way, as their vocal chords are non existant due to their enlarged glands that produce their specific power. They do have a "voice" when they use telepathy. and usualy it is the voice they started life with.

The breath of the goddess, the dragons were created when the goddes breathed her last breath. Dragons have differen ethnicities with in them and some that are rarer than others.
Conservation Status
the few dragons that do remain have been blood bonded to a powerful being in order to survive without their species to keep them going.
