The Ruined Gate

The Ruined Gate is the only way to Liadan's Island. The Cait Sith crafted her tower to fall apart and reform as the gate, then back into her tower with all the interior untouched, at a snap of her fingers. Liadan herself seems to be able to teleport back to the Island without the gate. It's unknown if she can teleport anywhere else. Cait Sith's have mysterious powers.

From the books:

The Cait Sith gave me an amused, half smile and sidelong look as she snapped her fingers. The clearing rumbled, then the tower began to collapse in on itself. The stones crashed and rolled to the ground, many gaining moss and mushrooms as they settled back onto the forest floor. But the arched door remained, humming with magical energy. - The Wolf Gate

Liadan looked up from her book. “It’s time.”

“What?” Gavin pulled the plug to drain the sink.

“Audrey, it’s time!” Liadan called.

“Time for what, you cryptic feline?” Audrey yelled from upstairs.

“Visitors.” Liadan snapped her book shut and stood. “Come, come.” She waved us along. “I've never disassembled the tower with living creatures inside. I suppose you could stay if you would like to be part of an experiment.” She poked her head up the stairs. “Audrey, would you like to be part of an experiment?”

“I'm coming!”

Gavin dried his hands and hung up the tea towel before passing me my hoodie.

“Thank you.” I snatched up my backpack as well. I wasn’t sure what the whole experiment on living things entailed, but it didn’t sound like something I should inflict on the babies.

Audrey ran down from upstairs and collided in the kitchen with Gavin. He handed her hoodie over and she paused to kiss him before pulling it on.

“Later, children.” Liadan swept past us and exited in a rustle of velvet and silk.

I shouldered my bag and followed Audrey and Gavin down the stairs out of the tower. The mist had dissipated around the tower, but it was still a cold morning. What time of year was it in Faerie?

“Can't you get your visitors to come on nicer days?” Audrey rubbed her arms, and Gavin pulled her back against him, wrapping his arms around her. “And don't you find it incredibly inconvenient to have to disassemble your entire house every time somebody comes to visit?”

Liadan glowered at her and snapped her fingers. The tower began to tumble apart.

“I mean, you built this thing," Audrey continued. "What kind of poor planning was that?”

“I planned the creation of the Ruined Gate in detail. It keeps people from poking through my things while I’m out.” Liadan examined her fingernails. “Besides, I generally plan not to have visitors at all. You may recall that I didn't actually invite any of you.” She waved her arm at the three of us.

“No, you just dragged me here against my will,” said Audrey.

“I suppose that's true.” Liadan glanced at her. “Only the first time, though. You just keep coming back.”

“Who’s visiting, anyway?” Audrey asked.

“So impatient, human child.”

The rocks all settled into place, some of them creating the Ruined Gate, the rest littering the mossy field. If I hadn’t just been in her tower, I would have thought I was looking at ancient ruins. - The Frost Gate
