Skeleton - Urdruin Fel

"Ah see one, two, then twenny o' them, risen' fro tha mists like smoke, err a trick o' the eye. But surren, them was the walking dead, the Urdruin Fel, camin' at ahs. We readied, ah we readied, until we seen that for erry five or so walking, therren two erso runnin, gettin 'hind us. Thems the smart ones, thems the ones that ain't fully dead.    So whatted we do? Hells, we ran too!"   Skeletons, that is, walking, shambling, undead remains of creatures, are a rare sight in the civilized areas of Tir Eriad. In ruins, decrepit crypts, and the dark places of the world, they become much more common. The most common skeleton encountered is a shambling creature, nearly pathetic in form once one bypasses the initial shock of its appearance. They are attracted to the living, and pursue them with a single-minded goal. Once caught, they beat, club, rip and tear as well as they can. Contrary to popular legend, a person killed by a skeleton will not rise to become another. However, the powerful magic that raised the first skeleton are likely in that area, and thusly will raise the second corpse as well.    Skeletons will often lie in tombs or crypts, crawling to their feet only when a living creature nears. It is unknown whether this is something they do naturally, or whether a higher intelligence positions them so, but it can be an effective ruse for tomb robbers attempting to pilfer trinkets from the dead.    A skeleton that is destroyed can sometimes return to life, though they will never do so when illuminated by a source of light or under a living creature's watchful gaze. Skeletons destroyed by a Channeler of light will lose the ability to resurrect themselves, owing to the channeling of light energy separates the shadow from their bones.    Skeletons range in general intelligence and tactics depending on the magics that initially raised them. The simplest skeletons, used as fodder by distant necromancers, have no recollection of their previous life, and simply shamble on to snuff out the living until they are destroyed. Occasionally, a skeleton will be raised that retains some memory from their life. This is common in skeletons that conducted repeated tasks, such as craftsmen or soldiers. These skeletons will simply repeat that tasks, returning to their memory once the living in their immediate vicinity are dead. This is dangerous for soldier skeletons as while still slow, they retain the ability to use arms and armor and still remember the specific patterns of soldiery that they knew in life, and can be somewhat surprisingly apt swordsmen and archers.    Lastly, there are the infused skeletons. These skeletons are created when a corpse is instilled with a dread shadow, becoming a nimble, less vulnerable, and skilled opponent. They obviously do not bleed, and like all skeletons, can reconstitute themselves. Fire on a destroyed skeleton is one of the most effective means of destruction without resorting to magical efforts.
