Maiara

The country of Maiara is varied and rich of history. Its current rulers are welcoming to nationals who wish to treat with them, but will adamantly protect their people and their way of life. Trade routs have shaped the country as it is currently known but intrepid thrill seekers can find ruins from the past where money can be made aiding archeologists in uncovering the distant histories of their people and fate, or towering mountains and deep caves to plunder for wealth.

Geography

Mountains and snow to the northwest, swamps and rivers to the east, forests scattered about, and verdant plains and hills in between and to the south. An abundance of coastal land as well. The island of Dasana to the south is also part of Maiara, and is mostly desertous in climate. A volcano lays dormant just below the island.

Localized Phenomena

A cavern of resonous crystal lays in the northwestern mountains and is the site of religious worship. There is also signs that the swamplands and numerous waterways in the northeast are not natural. The Quasan live beneath the ocean to the south and do not care for visitors.

Natural Resources

Fishing is a large part of Maiaran life, although the fertile planes host a slew of farming and ranching practices. A few areas are fit for mining, and there are abundant forests as well. The volcano to the south also gives access to rich soil and stone that is useful to everyday life, as well as being a prime location for treasure seekers.

History

Not much is known about the early history. At one time a calamity ended the rule of the native Saiit and forced them south to the island of Dasana, but little remains of their society and even less is known about what ended their rule. The country was settled by multiple groups from outside the continent, who eventually forgot their roots and began their own kingdom. The few Saiit that were left were easy targets for forced servitude, which lasted until a civil war was fought over the rights of the everyday citizens. The outcome freed the Saiit and allowed for more rights for the common man, completely reformatting the monarchy. Peace was settled through a political marriage that was lucky enough to have to willing and compatible subjects, though the queen passed giving birth to the only heir of the union.

Tourism

Any outsiders are usually in the country for one of two things: trade or religion. The various ports that dot the coast and the capital are both hubs for international shipping. The holy site of the Crystal Cavern is a magnet for Archanans the world over.

Maps

  • Japas
The village of Japas, while small, is a trade hub and the largest settlement in western Maiara. A great many goods make their way through the coastal village and as such, they have a decent Maiaran military presence and a vibrant market scene. The close proximity to the most prolific oceanic trade rout in the Scaled Sea, the Hazrai Line, makes it an international hub as well. Most profit made goes into securing the western front against invasion and bolstering the military as well as the enlistment of naval militia ships from Dasana to protect the village from pirates and other dangers. A portion also goes into the maintaining of a Quasan presence to combat the ever present danger of sea serpents along the edges of the Line. As such, the village as a whole, while not poor, has not swollen to the size of the eastern ports and proper towns in central Maiara. However, the denizens seem to prefer this, leaning into a strong sense of community and a jovial connection to a nearby sect of Saiitian traditionalists that help to tame the surrounding jungle and act as ambassators to Dasana Isle when the need arises.
