Quasan (Kaa-sahn)
A secretive and rare species of aquatic humanoids that live in cloistered groups across the world. Appearances vary from one environment to another, but most retain the same basic traits. They are able to survive for short periods of time on land if well hydrated, but not indefinitely. Their bodies are medium and of the standard upright four-limbed variety, but with a focus on streamlining for maximum efficiency when swimming. The eyes are dual lidded and reptilian in nature. Webbed fingers are tipped in claws, while the feet are elongated slightly and fanned into semi-fins. Coloration ranges through neutrals and muted colors. They possess gills and fins that are fairly prominent. The fins can range in size and length, with females tending to be on the smaller or shorter side. The exception to the rule is the rare 'serpentsinger' variety, which possesses longer and flashier fins and bright, non-standard colors that set them apart. They are also capable of producing a tone both above and below water that the sea serpents known as Drakon react to by visibly calming and becoming not only less combative but in some rare cases outright friendly to the Quasan that makes the sound. As a result, some serpentsingers and their companions or entourage will seek out work with ships and naval vessels or installments to help secure safe passages through waters known to be infested by Drakon. They are hunted down in other parts of the world for this same ability and, in parts of the country of Hon-Pok, are even kept corralled into certain areas of their natural habitat so that they can be 'farmed' for anyone with this outstanding ability.
