Decanus

The dean or elder, called a decanus in latin, is the leader of a religious canon chapter. Canons are a type of religious staff in the Catholic Church who serve as caretakers of the church or religious buildings ; since the introduction of Benedictan rules, they share a near-monastic life and form communities.
