Hundreds of thousands of gems were discovered

The cave system of Shirk'la seemed to go on and on, and a few brave adventurers would explore previously unexplored caverns. During one such trip, gems of all kinds were discovered sticking out of the rock walls. Terra magicians soon started to extract them, and the veins of gems never seemed to end. Shirk'la, already famous and rich due to their impressive crops, now also boasted the best gems money could buy. Shirk touched with Terra even came up with a new branch of their magic - gem molding.
