Magical soul

Every mage has a magical soul; essentially, a magical essence which acts as a protector for their mind. Whether the mage is asleep, shapeshifted into animal form, or dead, the soul preserves the mage's consciousness. In particular, only mages, who have magical souls, can access the Land of Souls, the dreamworld and afterlife of Tieără.
Magical souls were gifted to the humans by the goddess Maălobă during the Split between the worlds. To this day, Maălobă still holds by a promise to offer a magical soul to any who swears to serve her as her priest.

The magical soul is a complex magical essence which simulates a human brain, storing the owner's memories and preserving their consciousness.

Significance

Magical souls are extremely important to the culture and religion of Bredainnă, and non-mages, who lack them, are discriminated against for it.
