Land of Souls

The Land of Souls is a virtual world which mages visit while they sleep, as well as after death. While in the Land of Souls, mages can manipulate their surroundings however they want, although nothing they do will affect the physical world. The Land of Souls is often used to communicate with other mages across large distances, as well as with the dead. It's also the place where most Bredans are educated. It can also be used to scry other locations, allowing mages to watch what is happening elsewhere in the world in real time. The Land of Souls is also the home of the gods and of Vorant, the Soul Devourer.

The day was over, and Aădient was ready for bed. He shut his eyes, and felt himself be taken to the Land of Souls. Opening his eyes again, he saw that everything was just as he'd left it. It was his own private universe, which he was building exactly as he wanted it to be. But he had somewhere to be. He got a message from his shapeshifting teacher, inviting him to class. Aădient made the scenery around him disappear, and found himself in the world his teacher had prepared, along with the other students. The course was mainly about the differences between the bodies of humans and animals, and today, they were talking about human bodies specifically. The parts of the body they were discussing appeared one by one, floating in the centre of the room. Aădient listened attentively, stopping time whenever he needed to gather his thoughts, and replaying the explanation when he missed something important. "You should also get to know your own bodies in better detail," the teacher suggested at the end of the lesson. "After all, each body is different, and if you're going to shapeshift, you want to know your own body if you ever hope to shapeshift back." Aădient scried his own physical self. He found himself back in his room, in front of his bed, watching himself sleep. He shrunk his ghostly form and entered his sleeping body, exploring the parts of it that they'd learned about in the lesson, and familiarising himself with it so that he'd be able to shapeshift one day. Afterwards, he noticed it was getting late. The sun was already rising above the horizon. It was time to wake up.

Geography

Mages in the Land of Souls can shape their surroundings however they want. Thus, each mage can create their own private universe within the Land of Souls. For the most part, only the people who they give permission are able to see the world that they've created, although there are a few ways to circumvent this.
