History

The Argan Empire was founded over 500 years ago with the appearance of the Argan lords and the first emperor, Anumesh I. They arrived in the town of Arga which at the time was no more than a village and within 50 years had built the society into a large and powerful city state. They then used their great power to begin their conquest of Tiarna and secured the cities nearest to them, and named the newly-formed province "The Heartland". They reworked the cities to have specific tasks to accomplish, renaming them to reflect their specific jobs. The Farm was created as the center for crop growing in the empire and vast farming networks were constructed to deliver innumerable amounts of food to the province. The Hydroclasm was created by Daedolo as a giant watermill which processed vast amounts of wood and also powers the great water pumps that pump water from the nearby river through a grand pipe system into Arga, giving the citizens a reliable source of water. The Iron City was commissioned as a city dedicated to the production all manner of arms and armor for the warriors of the new empire. The Old Mines were flooded with a fresh workforce and refurbished in order to mine all the ore from the Steel Mountains in order to satiate the Empire's need of steel and iron. Steelpoint was commisioned as the chief forge city where the ore would be taken to and processed into ingots that could be distributed to anywhere in the empire. Finally the Factorium was established as a facotry-city that would create all manner of goods from clothing to furniture. Its giant factories and thousands of workers are the largest in the world. With this new organized structure and the superhuman power of the Argan Lords, Arga conquered region after region, some through conquest and some through negotiation. They secured the lands now known as West Empire in 66AAE, North Empire in 80AAE, East Empire in 94AAE, The Lake Lands in 97AAE, The Rolling Tundra in 102AAE, The Snowlands in 111AAE, the Southern Plains in 126 AAE, The Golden Foothills in 127AAE and finally the island of Skred in 134AAE. By 135AAE they controlled an empire that spanned from the eastern coast all the way to the edge of the World's Spine Mountains to the west. Their attention turned to the Kingdom of Aeur which ruled the lands between Koterra and the western edge of the World's Spine mountains. The ensuing war was long and bloody and the Argan advance was slowed due to the narrow passes through the World's Spine mountains which could be defended effectively by the much smaller forces of the Aeurians. When the Argan Lord Fenros learned of the defeats that had been suffered, he was enraged and personally lead the charge in a final assault in 139AAE which would be later known as "The Great Slaughter". The Argan Forces led by their powerful general decimated the forces of the Aeurians and advanced all the way to the capital of Aeur, raising it to the ground and slaughtering all of its citizens. A new city was raised in its ashes, and was called New Arga to celebrate the great triumph. The Ayahli people of The Great Forrest heard of the slaughter and worried that they might be next to face the Argan advance so they sent word to all other western powers of the horrors that the Argans had wrought. The City States ignored their pleas as they were more concerned with fighting each other. The great empire of Savaria also dismissed the Argan threat as they had a civil war in their own lands to deal with. Koterra and Storm Kingdom answered the call and amassed their armies to prepare for the Argan onslaught, sending troops to the Koterran city of Sharlo to await the incoming assault and be ready to flank the Argans should they attack. In 144AAE they did indeed begin their assault on Ayah by attacking and capturing the city of Treewatch. The counter attack of the joint forces was halted at the mountain pass just outside of Koterra, past Castle Valor. Meanwhile the Argans had sent a large naval force to blockade the ports of the city states of Coralmar, Anteros, and Cira. The Cirrans held a grand meeting of the leaders of all of the city states and decided to form a confederation to deal with this new threat. In 146AAE Savaria crushed the rebellion that had ravaged the country and word began to spread of the Argan attacks on the city states and it was at this point that Savaria decided to intervene, sending armies to both the Confederation and Koterra to aid in the resistance. The ensuing battles lasted for over 300 years with many territories being taken over by one side or the other. Great naval battles with thousands of ships were fought along the northern coastline and in the waters of the Restless Isles and in the Confederation waters of the south. Koterran-occupied lands east of the Biting Desert were decimated and raised to the ground and so many battles were fought in that region that it was renamed "The Graveyard" after the countless dead whose remains still litter the countryside. The Koterran Castle that bordered it was renamed "Fort Remembrance" in honor of all the fallen soldiers. After many long and bloody campains had been waged, it was clear that both sides had reached a stalemate and the heads of both sides met to discuss negotiations of peace. In 452AAE both sides signed the Treaty of the Fallen, ending the war. Its provisions ensured no more assaults would be launched against the western powers as long as they provided Arga with a tribute of goods once per year. Its been 40 years since the great war ended and Arga has thrived during the time of peace, establishing trade networks throughout Tiarna as well as many forward bases in the land now known as "The Bulwark". Arga is at the height of its power right now and it doesn't seem like it will change in the near future.
