The Savarian Empire
The Savarian Empire is the mighty nation that rules the Far West of Tiarna. Its mighty castles are garrisoned by noble samurai and its freezing northern coast is dotted with many monasteries of the Order of the Crescent Moon. Its forests are lush and teeming with wildlife and are rumored to contain many spirits(kami in Savarian). They also employ special forces that deal in covert missions where secrecy, stealth and deadliness are needed in abundance. These secret agents are known as shinobi, whose ancient order can be traced back to the beginning of the Mythic Age.
The Empire's influence is second only to the Argan Empire and many of its merchants and agents can be found throughout Tiarna.
Structure
The Emperor leads the empire with the help of the Royal Council of Advisers, which is made up of Noble Lords who each control cities of the empire. Each Noble Lord has several retainers who see to all matters concerning the running of the individual cities and territories that the lord controls. The retainers work with the Samurai Commanders to maintain peace and order in the Empire.
History
The Empire was founded in 13AAE by Savar, The First Satrlight. He conquered the lands surrounding Lake Amabie and founded his capital city on the shores of the lake. He then proceeded to wage a lengthy campaign across the far west to claim them all for his empire. He acquired many companions along the way that would become his best friends and legends in there own right. These companions included Ebito Moonspeaker, a monk and the eventual founder of the Monastic Order of the Crescent Moon; Hanzo the Shadow, who was the leader of the Shinobi Syndicate at the time, and Ogetsu the Manslayer, the most deadly samurai of all time.
Not all regions of the Far West opposed Savar; some joined him willingly, either out of respect or awe at his many amazing feats. Many of those feats were slaying of great beasts that ravaged the land such as the great demon bird, Arisetsu who terrorized the plains between the mountain range of Kotor's Shield and the Mountains of Woe near Daitengu , Tanari and Okubi.
Savar died in 43AAE and he was succeeded by a line of Emperors that became weaker and weaker over time, not caring for the people and spending all their time enjoying the luxuries that being emperor provided. Eventually political unrest became such a problem that in 135AAE the Noble Lords revolted against Emperor Oronobi, The 6th Starlight, and slew him in his palace. This led to a bloody civil war in which the Samurai Commanders who were loyal to the emperor fought against the detractors led by the Noble Lords. The samurai were victorious and all the noble lords were executed for their treachery in 146AAE, ending the war. The leader of the Samurai commanders, Junbei the Mighty was crowned emperor two days later and became Junbei, The 7th Starlight, the emperor who would lead Savaria into the 300 Years War and earn many victories against the Argans. He drove them out of the United Confederation of City Sates and personally made the journey with his army to the frontlines in Ayah to fight the Argans at the famous "Battle of Green Lake" in 166AAE where he died in combat after slaying 7 of Fenros' most trusted lieutenants, causing the leaderless Argan force to retreat from the battlefield. A his son was crowned emperor and the war continued to rage until The Treaty of the Fallen was signed in 452AAE, ending the war. The current emperor: Nobuzo, The 16th Starlight was there that day and was one of the signatures on the peace treaty. He is a beloved emperor but has no heir and is starting to feel the crippling effects of old age, unable to father an heir to the empire. Because of this, the Savarian Empire's future is uncertain, with many scheming powers readying for the emperor's health to fail.
