The Monastic Order of The Crescent Moon

The Order strives to achieve inner peace and enlightenment by stripping away the messy and damaging parts of the soul that the imperfect world has stained it with, leaving only the heavenly essence, and then being reborn as a new being of pure light, just as the moon forms a crescent and is reborn again as a heavenly body of light and purity, radiating in the skies above.

History

The Monastic Order of The Crescent Moon was founded in 22AE by Ebito Moonspeaker after he made a pilgrimage to the Temple of the Kami atop Mt. Samayama. He prayed for 10 days but the gods wouldn't answer his prayers. At the end of the 10th day he was losing faith and about to collapse from thirst and starvation when he noticed the Crescent moon overhead, shining brightly into his very soul. He stared at the moon for what he called "A thousand eternities" and found that he no longer felt thirsty or hungry. He believed the moon had enlightened him to the reality of existence and immediately began descending the northern slopes of the mountain, sliding down the oily, frozen mountainside in his wooden sandals. when he reached the bottom there was a stream of the clearest flowing water and many trees with beautiful fruits on them. He ate the fruits and drank the water and fell into a deep sleep. He awoke in the morning and journeyed along the river, through the Oiled Mountains until he reached the frozen northern coast of the Far West. It was here that he built his first monastery, a few miles outside of the town of Karura, and the Order of The Crescent Moon was born.
