Acorns and Secret Messages

Acorns are a common type of nut grown from oak trees native to the Isles of Tongues. They have a long history of being associated with growth and rebirth due to their cultural significance of the druids that once served as the religious leaders of the human natives of the Isles of Tongues before they were first conquered by warriors from the northern continent.
The druids, of course, have died out as a tradition after many years of being oppressed by the various conquering nations and rival religious organizations that have taken hold of the islands over the centuries. However much of their old traditions were written down and preserved by members of the College of Biogenesis, whom accepted numerous former druids into their ranks prior to the end.
One such traditional symbol of their order has survived to modern use, albeit no longer associated with their ancient religion. The acorn is now used as a secret symbol used by members of the eco-terrorist organization known as the Burning Tree. The acorns are inscribed with spirit script to convey hidden messages within the tiny glimmer of astral presence of the living seed that can be read and understood by other members of the organization. As such when one member hands off an acorn to another member it functions as an exchange of information and a delivery of orders from higher up in the organization. For non-mages it is instead a way of revealing oneself to other members without saying it aloud. When a non-mage member of the organization receives an acorn in secret they are trained to seek out the nearest wizard of their order and hand it to them, thus receiving their orders for the next operation.
The Burning Tree is composed mostly of demihumans with a fairly small number of actual mages, which makes each acorn very precious to them as so few can read and write the spirit script necessary to make use of them.
