Well House
The Well House is a stoutly constructed stone and brick warehouse located in the Town of Molrick about a half mile from Blackstone Castle. It is a window-less building 40' by 60' and standing about 20' high with stout oak doors at each end. Signage on the building and local understanding label the warehouse as "Briar's Hold" to indicate whom the building and its contents belong to (the Briar of Molrick, Crole Blackbeard).
What is less well known to the locals of Molrick is that secretly built into the warehouse is a 10' by 10' shaft that leads down nearly 70' to an ancient tunnel system that was discovered during the construction of Blackstone Castle. This tunnel runs for just more than one mile in total length, and by following the tunnel from the bottom of the warehosue shaft south for a half mile, you will find another shaft leading to the bailey court Blackstone Castle.
Purpose / Function
The Well House was built to fill several roles in the Briary's defensive layout. First and foremost it is a safe, defensible building protecting and hiding an entrance to an ancient and secret tunnel system that leads directly into the heart of Blackstone Castle. It offers a safe and relatively distant exit from Blackstone Castle should a siege or attack ever necessitate a clandestine escape from Blackstone Castle. It offers additional access to stored foods, wines and specialty items that the Briar might not want stored within the Castle itself. Finally, because of the constantly flowing fresh water found within the Well, the Well House also provides a safe and defensible source of fresh water to the inhabitants of the Town of Molrick.
Architecture
Walls, cellars and the shaft to the Well are all built of finely cut stone or brick. The ceiling of the warehouse is made entirely of stout oak beams which support a low roof of beams and lead sheets.
Defenses
The Well House is manned by at least three Blackstone Legionaries at all times, ostensibly to guard and protect the contents of the warehouse, which are known to be the personal property of the Briar. In reality, they are there to guard and protect the entrance and access to the Well. The warehouse itself is sealed by two double-wide oak doors banded in iron and weighing nearly 1,000 pounds each. The warehouse has no windows or roof access, so those two doors are the only way in or out, other than the Well.
