Village of Stone Square
Stone Square is a walled and fortified village located on the eastern slope of the Gold Road pass over the Stone Mountains. It is a small village of only 278 souls living inside of very high and very well-built stone walls. The village is located just 40 miles east of the Junn Harr settlement of Zimnii Gorod.
Stone Square is a focal point for the eventual establishment of a prospecting effort along the eastern slope of the Gold Road. Nearly all the residents have seen the evidence of gold in the region, either in the form of dust taken from stream beds or nuggets and ore from local caves and veins. The only real hinderance is the inevitable encounters with Orcs and Trolls that have so plagued these efforts in the past.
The village has more than a dozen shops and businesses that cater to travelers and prospectors, including smiths, sutlers, saddlers, wainwrights, farriers and leather workers. There are two inns within the village walls and another about a half mile west of the village, as well as several large campsites for herders or large parties.
Demographics
Defences
The small village is surrounded by a stout stone and hedge wall that stands 12' high on average. The stone walls are more than 10' thick at the base and the interior half of the walls are thick mature blackthorn hedges. The walls have three primary gates: one on the east side of the village, one on the west and a towered gate on the north that opens out onto several fields and pastures for local livestock and ponies.
The village maintains a constant watch with locals manning all three gates day and night. Everyone in the village is armed at all times, and most houses are fortified and heavily defended. The threat of Orc and Troll raids is very real and the residents are well aware of the threat.
Industry & Trade
The town caters to trade and traffic from both directions on the Pass. Goods and commodities from Cobal are available for those coming from the Kingdom and many fine Junnharic goods are available to those heading east. There are farriers, smiths, saddlers and a wagonwright.
Tourism
There are two inns located within the walls of the village and several dedicated places were camps can be set up outside the walls. Both inns offer rooms, food, fodder and some supplies. The camp sites have clean springs and ample grasses for large parties. There is a third inn, called Stonecrest Manor, located about a half mile west of the village walls, that can accommodate larger parties or significant herds of livestock.
