Tigrosh (tig-rOsh)

Tigrosh is the Karni name for a complex of ruined structures located in the extreme northwest of the Corsair Kingdom of Karnesh. It is located at the junction of the two ancient highways now known as the Vias Akarneh (River Road) and the Vias Ebonaas (Dark Road) and is the traditional landmark denoting the limit of Oshahni control of the region.   Tigrosh is an astonishingly old site. It is generaly agreed that the fortress compex is at least as old as the two highways that meet there: at least 1,800 years old. No ferrus or wooden materials remain anywhere within the site due to its extreme age. Only the local basaltic rock that was used to construct it is left. The site covers an area of some 60 acres and is surrounded by a remarkably intact ring wall that stands (on average) about 12' high and is at least 4' thick. There are five openings in the ring wall that allow access from the outside. Within the wall are four large structures and nearly a dozen smaller ones, all constructed of the same dark stone blocks as the wall.   The largest of the inner structures is now called the "Palace" but it's actual function is completely unknown. It is a long narrow structure with a rotunda-like center and a square, spired room on each end. The entire building is more than 200' long and stands 35' tall at the peak of the barrel vault ceiling that runs the length of the two long corridors. The corridors are both symmetrically designed and constructed and are 30' wide (interior dimension). There are many carved stone panels along the exterior walls of these corridors that are intended to look like windows, but there are no actual windows anywhere in the building.

Purpose / Function

Original design and purpose is not understood, but it is today the base of operations for Oshahni patrols around the Karn River

Architecture

One very mysterious feature of the ruins at Tigrosh are several huge geared wheels that are standing inside the walls of the complex at or near three of the five gate opening in the exterior walls. Each wheel stands more than 16' tall and are thought to weigh as much as 1,200 tons each. Each wheel displays a double set of geared teeth carved into the outside edges of the wheel, with a deep v-groove evident between the rows of gears. No one knows what these wheels are for or how exactly they were created.

Defenses

The patrol garrison stationed at Tigrosh is usually less than 30 Oshahni corsairs and one officer. All will be heavily armed and all will be unmotivated and blind drunk on any given day.  This unit of soldiers is typically rotated out of the encampment every four to six weeks via barges on the Karn River.
