Temple Hospital, Len Doa

The Temple Hospital of Len Doa is located within the Grand Temple of Len Doa.  It is in the heart of the Castle District only a few hundred yards from the Duke's Palace.   The Hospital is run by a Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of Heaven, a religious order of the Pantheon of Heaven faith.  This Chapter is governed by Reverend Mother Doria Suten, a 55-year-old Human originally from the City of Malamor.  Mother Doria governs six priestesses and eleven novices that all serve the sick, wounded and weary of the city.

Purpose / Function

The Temple Hospital provides healing, medicine and comfort to the needy of the City of Len Doa.

Design

The main floor of the Hospital is where the surgeries and examination rooms are located, as well as a large communal room where transient patients can be seen and shrines to the Pantheon.  The second floor is where smaller, more private rooms for convalescing can be accommodated.  The third floor is adminstrative and residential space for the Daughters and novices.   The upper cellar is dedicated to kitchens, pantries, a large bathing area and the Chapterhouse of Len Doa for the Order of the Swords of Heaven.  The lower cellar is storage, furnaces, and an apothecary.  There is also a substantial vault located here that holds the Order's most valuable relics and any votive offerings made by patients.

Sensory & Appearance

The interior of the Hospital is absollutely spotless.  Walls are white, floors are smooth tile and without blemish, windows are unadorned to allow the maximum amount of light into the interior.  The air smells slightly of the vinegar used to keep the floors and walls clean, and all surfaces are routinely cleaned with scalding-hot water several times a day.  Linens, towels and clothes are all washed white and allowed to dry in the hot air near the constantly stoked furnaces that heat the water and ovens of the building.

Valuables

In the lowest cellar is a vault (20' by 30') that contains the most valuable objects held by the Hospital.  This includes some 80 Northern guilders in gold, a substantial amount of very, very valuable magical healing components (including some dozen vials of various dragon oils, and a large number of valuable offerings made by the sick and injured to the Hospital.

Architecture

The Hospital is a three-story square structure built of fine, clean limestone with tall glazed windows on the two upper floors.  There are two cellars below the building that house kitchens, baths, supplies, a large laundry and a Chapterhouse of the Order of the Swords of Heaven.  Each floor of the Hospital is roughly 10,000 square feet in area, and the entire hospital can accommodate as many as 40 invalids easily and 100 with some serious effort.

Defenses

The only real defenses of the Hospital lay with the Chapterhouse of the Swords located in the upper cellar.  These Brother Knights are all very capable warriors and whenever they are in residence at the Temple, the offer a real and measurable degree of security.
