Hobb Notcher
Master Hobb Notcher
Hobb Notcher is the site master for the Normar Timber Camp on the northeern edge of the Normar Forest. He is a 38-year-old Human that has been put in charge of the camp and all its ancillary operations for the last 11 months.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Tall and strong from years of hard labor in harsh conditions. Hobb has dark hair thata is rapidly going to gray and weather-tanned skin the color of old leather.
Identifying Characteristics
Hobb had his left hand crushed by a huge piece of falling timber, losing most of two fingers and leaving the other two bent and terribly misshapen.
Special abilities
Over the course of the last several months, Hobb has come to realize that he is immune to the song of harpies. He has seen the effect the song has on his men first-hand but has been unaffected by the hypnotic sounds himself. It was his unrealized ability to ignore the songs that allowed him to save the lives of his men that were magically compelled to make their way directly to the deadly creatures.
Specialized Equipment
Hobb is known to keep and carry the cant hook that he used to kill two harpies with last spring, stating that he knows they can be killed with one of those and he knows how to use one of those.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Nearly one year ago, Hobb was placed in charge of the timber operation that had been faltering just within the edges of the Normar Forest. He was picked for the position by the Briar himself, Myron Graymer, with the understanding that he would earn 15% of the gross revenue of the camp if he could make it profitable. The problem lies with the possibility that the operation won't be profitable, and then the Briar might make Hobb answer to his son, Stannard Graymer, for the failure. This prospect makes Hobb literally ill with worry and concern.
In addition to these concerns, Hobb has had to deal with an infestation of Harpies that is making the operation of the camp not just difficult, but actually quite dangerous. Within the last month, Hobb was forced to physically drag two of his workmen away from a singing harpy that would have killed them mercilessly had they been allowed to follow the enchanted song. After physically incapacitating the two workers, Hobb (who soon found he had a natural ability to resist the hypnotic songs) was forced to beat two of the beasts to death with a cant hook that he found at the worksite. He now is seen with the cant hook in his possession whenever he is out and about the camp.
