Alain I

Alain Carrel was the eldest son of King Marcel I Carrel and Renee Courbet, the oldest surviving child of King Serge VIII Courbet.  Alain was the second Carrel King of Aria.  He ruled from 136 AF until his death in 167 AF at the age of 55 years.   Alain's entire reign was dedicated and focused on the rebuilding of the Kingdom after the devestation brough about by the Ten Winter War of eighteen years earlier.  Many in the southern regions of the Kingdom refer to Alain I as "Alain the Builder" to this day for his tireless efforts to put the broken portions of the Kingdom back together.  Entire towns and villages were rebuilt over the course of his 30-year reign, as were roads, bridges, canals, ports and (of course) dozens of keeps, castles, forts and towers.     Perhaps his greatest achievment was accomplishing so much repair and rebuilding without bankrupting the Kingdom's treasury.  Alain almost single-handedly directed and managed the finances of the Kingdom so masterfully that millions of urcs worth of materials and wages were paid for without painful taxation or forced labor.  Areas of the Kingdom that were less directly impacted by the war were expected to provide material and/or manpower rather than gold or silver tax obligations, and areas most effected by the war were granted special tax privileges wherein local tax money was directed to local rebuilding efforts.  Royal authority was granted to certain military units to provide immediate labor and security manpower, and pressure was applied from the Court to the various organs of the Pantheon of Heaven faith communities to provide material and sustenance support, as well as spiritual and emotional relief.   Alain also greatly improved international relations between Aria and the Kingdom of Imesse by arranging a very productive marriage between his daughter, Lauren Carrel and Maxin am Maxalli during the height of Imesse's own invasion crisis, now known as the The Second Great Orc War.
