Goblins

Goblins are a crude, yet clever underground race. They are shorter than Orcs, but can be just as cruel and, some would say, even more cunning. When folk speak of Goblins, they usually mean these ornery, snarling but surprisingly shrewd and technically competent beings. They are far and away the most common of the three Goblinoid sub-races, and they form the vast majority of the population of any substantial Goblin kingdom.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Goblins look like twisted, diminutive Orcs in all ways except that their feet, oddly enough, lack clearly defined toes and are quite sensitive.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Goblins have round heads, snout-like snub noses and wide, grimacing mouths.

Average Intelligence

Goblins are beings of impulse. Since many of their communities are chaotic in nature, only the strongest surviving and being the leader, Goblins don't have much room for scholars in their midst.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Goblin names are often simpler versions of Orcish names, or involve anatomy along with a verb within their name.   Examples include: Vonk, Moarg, Gutsmack, Nosebite, Pergunk, Wertuwg, Zitrake, Bloodpop, etc.

Relationship Ideals

Goblins don't have relationships in the traditional sense. Instead, many female goblins serve their tribes as breeders; providing an endless supply of new infant goblins so long as they live. These breeders are usually impregnated by the tribes chieftain when it comes time for a new litter.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

All Goblins are bound first and foremost to their tribe, which offers them security in numbers - and Goblin kingdoms can be quite large, offering quite a lot of security. Goblins are mechanically inclined, and for some, fascination with technology competes with loyalty to the tribe.

Common Myths and Legends

All things stated about any race are, of course, generalizations. However, most everyone accepts the generalizations of Goblins to be exclusively true. There are some stories of Goblin tribes that have been liberated, having been brought morality and ethics from paladins that have rescued them. It is said that these Goblins, while still being Goblins, manage to live a more peaceful and civilized life and will not attempt to attack or undermine anyone.   No farmers in Thoroth believe these stories.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Goblins are mean and violent by nature, but they bear no single race particular ill will. They are wanton, not selective in their destruction and havoc they wreak. If they have any racial hatreds, they are inspired by turf conflicts with other subterranean races.
