Ghodar, system

Ghodar solar system

Ghodar system and its peculiarities are introduced in the Coriolis core rules but left open to the GM to detail; that detail here is my content - Doctor Weather
Significant evidence of system-forming suggests the Portal Builders had a strong guiding hand in the evolution of Ghodar system. Ghodar planet also exhibits many characteristics shared by Lubau on Kua, teasing the possibility that one system was the experiment that allowed the perfection of the other.

Planetary bodies

Ghodar - planet

Main: Ghodar, planet
  • 4 AU from star
  • Settled
  • 1 moon
Ghodar is a golden planet as dangerous as it is beautiful. Its hot, toxic atmosphere sits over an arid landscape interrupted by oases of verdant mountain valleys and seas rather than oceans. A rocky debris field orbits this stellar jewel on a plane some 43 degrees tilted from the plane of the system, which, coupled with its deadly atmosphere, makes it a sister world to Lubau in Kua. Ghodar's 1 large moon matches its parent's strong tectonic activity. It is named Wendemi Bal by the inhabitants of Juldizin Demalisi, meaning ‘brother husband’, presumably in reference to the planet's nominal ruler.

Yesheriti Diri - asteroid belt

GM link: Yesheriti Diri - GM details
  • Averages 9 AU from star with variable width 2 to 6 AU
  • Mining and salvage operations only
Shining a bright silver-white, visible on the surface of Ghodar even during the humbling glare of the white star, the belt keeps the Ghodar colonists on edge, earning its a name that translates to "The Spider's Web". Strangely, the asteroids' light behaves in opposite manner to expected physics by diminishing as you approach such that the asteroids look like normal rock from their surface. The plane of the belt shares precisely the same 43-degree tilt of Ghodar's debris field.

Yesfir - gas giant

  • 23 AU from star
  • Consortium scientific operations only
  • 7 moons
Meaning "Star Like" in the same ancient language from which 'Yesheriti Diri' is taken, Yesfir is much more accurately described by its name: A bright white planet, it is the very daughter of its star. Yesfir's 7 moons and ring system also lie on a plane with a 43-degree tilt to the plane of the planets.   JUMP TO CONTENTS

Locations of interest

Ghodar Station - orbital space station
GM link: Ghodar Station
This minor operation receives little respect from locals and newcomers alike but be warned reader: this station monitors the planet's ubiquitous and frequent chain lightning that is a danger to landing ships. The uncautious visitor that does not avail itself of the station's weather calculations could easily be downed by a series of powerful strikes.   Julidizin Demalisi - capital city of the Ghodar colonisation
The only substantial settlement in Ghodar, Juldizin Demalisi is an up and coming city with a troubled past and an uncertain future. Settled some 39 CC ago by colonists seeking to escape interference of the Factions it seems inevitable that their tendrils are digging deeper into a colony that still needs to reach out to sell it's archaeological and scientific finds to the rest of the Horizon if it hopes to grow to stability. However, the increasingly obscure proclaimations and laws issued from its ruler, Khamzi, self proclaimed "Countess of the Sun", only serve to weaken her people's resolve and political resilience.   The Mind's Eye - Ghodar-Dziban portal station
That the Colonial Agency are personally operating a portal station this far out shows how much value the Consortium places on their new operations slowly extending reach throughout Ghodar. Some say it lends credence to the stories of Dziban's mematurgy and the abilities of his "Mind Cults". Others claim the station's shielding prevents outsiders from spying on the Foundation's experiments on the unstable portal. The only known truth of the station is its value to tourists: Though possessing domes and curving structures built to resemble Icon City on Mira - replete with disguised foundations such that the upper layer takes on the appearance of the floating Temple City - it has the 8-fold symmetry of an older faith.   JUMP TO CONTENTS

History and events

CC61, Gambler - Yesheriti Diri atomic detonation
Recent reports through The Bulletin claim a fusion detonation has occurred with the asteroid belt dangerously close to the Ghir-3 ore platform. The Free League have stated that the asteroid was on their platform's upcoming mining schedule and that they fear it was a failed sabotage event. They have yet to accuse Legion or Consortium operatives in the area but tensions will only heighten in the uncertainty.   JUMP TO CONTENS

Peculiarities

  Artifact and science treasure trove
Ruins of First-come operations are to be found throughout the system. Though there were few real settlements, our ancestors from before The Long Night maintained extensive scientific ventures here. No doubt inspired by the evidence of the Portal Builders' system forming they were likely chasing that promise of ancient science. Archaeologists and tomb robbers alike are everywhere in the system, always finding First-come artifacts and abandoned science facilities. As yet, the Portal Builders themselves remain elusive from their grasp but the quantity of First-come finds is keeping exmplorers more than happy.   Chain lightning
Early reports of Ghodar and Yesfir's unique atmospheric consituents remain a scientific curiosity that has attracted the attention of many a Foundation team. Still of unknown origin, both atmospheres give rise to continuous displays of chain lighting.   Khamzi, Countess of The Sun
Once merely Khamzi Mazandarani, elected leader of a colony ship seeking true independence, she now claims to be Shah of the system and even the very daughter of The Traveller himself. The truth of her transformation remains a mystery but has always been linked to her arrival in Ghodar. Whether she suffered mania during a poorly prepared portal jump or underwent a religious conversion on her early travels in the untamed atmosphere of Ghodar, she has now become the centre of a cult of sun worshippers.   Ore platform Ghir-3
As the largest single-station mining operation in the Horizon this construction would be a marvel alone. It features as a discussion point in many a court- and board- room alike more often becuase of its operation though, as it run as a co-operative between numerous Free League crews with an elected central administration. Rumours of it also being haunted or cursed may be a consequence of arrogant construction or propanganda put about by Factions who fear a destabilising influence of its liberal organisational style on the fabric of Horizon society.   JUMP TO CONTENTS

Faction presence

  Consortium
The Foundation maintains scientific operations throughout Ghodar and the Colonial Agency are an ever-present concern for anyone else trying to set up any form of operation here, as they continually press for Consortium monopolies.    Free League
Independent mining and salvage operations have run across Ghodar and throughout Yesheriti Diri for many cycles. Recently, they have had to coordinate a unified reponse to the Consortium's increasing pushes for dominance.   Legion
The Fleet operates a permanent protection service to Consortium operations and is rumoured to be bullying Free League ventures in such a way as might clear pathways for future Consortium interests. There also appears to be a permanent Legion Company maintained on Ghodar.   JUMP TO CONTENTS
