Bodach

Trickster god, Bogeyman Bodach (a.k.a. Old man)

The Bodach is both a lesser trickster deity and an evil creature seen as a devil by many. He carries the titles of bogeyman and Cailleach's husband. He is a creature used in cautionary tales to scare children into behaving well. In these stories, he climbs down the chimneys to kidnap children and brings them to his cold and dark castle where he pokes, pinches and generally disturbs them until they have nightmares.
He's also seen as an omen of death and bad luck and likes to trick strangers on the road into giving him all their belongings or making a deal with him. The only ones spared from such fates are those who carry his wife's blessing.
"a clown ... old striped clothes he had, and puddle water splashing in his shoes, and his sword sticking out naked behind him, and his ears through the old cloak that was over his head, and in his hand he had three spears of hollywood scorched and blackened."
-  Lady Gregory's tale "Manannan at Play"

Divine Domains

The Bodach is a god of misfortune and trickery. He's better known for his reputation as a 'devil' than for his reputation as a god.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Bodach tried to introduce his own divine symbol to the people for worship: a rusty, red coin. Sadly for him, the people interpreted it as an omen of bad luck or a curse and got rid of all their old rusty coins.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

The Bodach often appears as an old humanoïd man in worn down clothing. It is easy to mistake him for a beggar or a misfortunate farmer. But despite his frail, elderly appearance he's very nimble on his feet and has no problem breaking down a stone door.
His true appearance is one similar in nature to a hairy hobgoblin or bugbear. Yet he should not be confused with them as these creatures have no real relationship to him.

Body Features

The Bodach's true form has a tall, strong and flexible build of 2,10 metre. His lightly orange skin on his body and limbs is covered in light brown, and dark blond hair but his facial features aren't. He also has claws on his feet and hands.

Facial Features

He has long pointy ears standing horizontally from his face. His large, round and flat nose is prominently placed in the middle of his face and his large, sharp teeth seem to barely fit in his mouth. He also has a pair of small yellow eyes that reflect light in the dark like those of a cat.

Special abilities

There aren't many things that can keep the Bodach from entering a space. He is strong and nimble, enabling him to break down doors and climb in through small windows. However, he can not cross a barrier made of salt. A small line of salt or ash mixed with salt in the fireplace can keep the Bodach from entering your house.

Apparel & Accessories

The Bodach's entire clothing line consists of old, worn-down rags of all types. Most even have a layer of mud and other things stuck to them for good measure.

Social

Family Ties

The Bodach is the Husband of the feared and respected Cailleach, Queen of winter. He respects, loves and fears her wholeheartedly. They've had many children together.

History

Bodach fell head over heels in love with Cailleach the moment he saw her and relentlessly courted her and showered her with gifts (mostly in the form of acorns and the like).
Cailleach thought the minor god's personality and affection were interesting and charming and eventually returned his affections.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Both have a morbid sense of humour and a complete disregard for the rules if these rules inconvenience them.
