Zath the Eater

Ancient myth originating in ancient Drath society. They imagined a god that sometimes got angry at their race. At these times, Zath would lift some of their kind into a portal above them to eat them.   In reality, an alien faction hovered above Micars, sometimes abducting their race for study and experimentation, which may be a worse fate.   Zath could take the form of many different creatures often somewhat similar to those found on their homeworld, including large, squid-like beings with portals and even birds. Regardless of depiction though, the method by which it abducts people is almosmt universally agreed on. These abductions were recorded from some very early ages of the Drath history, present through the medieval age. Although this eventually stopped, the myth continued for a long time until the drath themselves reached space and almost had the technology to perform a similar move themselves. After this point they would ascend into their industrial era as science has improved radically. For a very long time, this myth was viewed with an intense curiosity as the abduction stores are far too consistent to be a regular myth, not to mention its worldwide presence. After the abductions stopped, it rapidly began to vary between groups significantly. Abductions were soon told as people simply vanishing from reality, the beams themselves destroying a person and people being sliced neatly in half. There are many documents supporting the myth from the ancient times. For example, books, carvings, even entire monuments were common. It is clear that the god was feared and there was no known way to appease them. Anyone could die at any moment.
