Vlelkatan
An ethnicity of Suons from the Mauray continent of Vlelkat.
Vlelkat is a megastructure - continent with a very low average surface temperature. Snow covers the majority of the land. Underneath many of the snow caps, there is nothing but a metal expanse as far as the eye can see. This does not form the majority of the continent however, and the rest supports life. Vlelkat is best known for the huge mountain ranges, some mountains are megastructures. Vlelkatan suons usually have the Ice Gene as that is what allows them to survive in the very cold environment. Vlelkatan suons typically have an orange-red shade of skin and orange-white bioluminescence. Due to the very cold climates where they live, the vlelkatans have developed more technologies and ways to retain heat. They oftne had large igloo-like structures as well as more effective heat sources. They were one group that developed fire quite early, several years before other groups. They typically cooked food in large, communal areas that could retain the large temeratures invovled in cooking.They have also developed primitive flying vehicles. These would burn a lot of fuel to remain in the air, and could only effectively fly in clear weather but they have made a large difference in battles involving thtese craft. Their enemies have developed counters, so they are now mostly used to support ground forces. In vlelkatan culture, taking to the skies is seen as honorable and prestigious, but very dangerous. Their aircraft technologies are quite unreliable, being made of very primitive materials and construction methods. They have access to little metal, and metal is heavy so they essentially have to use a very light but strong woodlike material for most of its construction, but the engine would often be made of a type of metal.
