Shock Rifle

A new type of cannon that very recently went out of development of the Republic of Miasi. A shock rifle works by delivering huge voltages -  approximately 50 gigavolts - into the target armour. 
This is applied using a projectile that is fired in a similar fashion to a coilgun, but shock rifle ammo can not be fired by regular coilguns. This is because the shell is made of carbon, which is non magnetic. A metal rail drives the round through the barrel. Using this method, the projectile accumulates a large velocity. 
Within the warhead of the projectile is a laser rangefinder that constantly keeps track of the distance to target. When the distance is about or less than 1 m, it triggers the warhead itself, inducing a voltage between the shell and target. The voltage is well over that required for electricity to arc over an airgap. 
Omadan engineers also managed to make the current significant, producing a lot of heat in the target.
Such a thing would normally be impossible without a return path for the neutral current, but 2 conducting paths through the air are formed through arcing. As these are typically large angles apart, a shock rifle will cause a significant amount of heat in a large area around the target armour. As the armour then melts, it usually results in destruction of the target.The Hyperion Federation congratulated the Omado engineers thst managed to develop this highly advanced weapon system.
It is, however, quite expensive to field. Omadan engineers are confident that it can be made cheaper while sacrificing little power, given development time.
